Gifts and business
Sep. 4th, 2007 01:19 pmI received two boxes today, both from Ruth - an absolutely gorgeous mortar & pestle set, now residing on the kitchen Hestia shrine and a HUGE box of plastic jars to get my business going. Yeah, baby! Thank you, absolutely perfect in every way.
Now that I've got enough containers to get myself started, its time to trot out a few name ideas, each with a little descriptor of why I like it and possible deterrents. Comments practically begged for!
Triple Pillars - a Kabbalist reference to the Tree of Life, Con: two many l's and p's. Great logo potential, though.
Basset Boys - the stinky bassets that first got me interested in making incense to cover their own musky scent: while honest, it lacks romance. Logo potential is limited (but cute).
The Incense Cupboard - nice, tidy but lacks any true imagination as its a tad forgettable. Pros - It is what it says. Cons - Logo potential boring.
So, Flist, what's your thoughts?
Btw, would any of the amazing artists on my Flist be willing to help me create a logo? I've no artistic ability whatsoever, so I'm a bit desperate! I can't offer you any money, but can promise a nice box of incense as payment.

Date: 2007-09-04 09:26 pm (UTC)The image.... an old cupboard, doors open with a variey of different jars, "Incense" is across the top of the cabinet, and "Cupboard" is on the bottom. Pencil drawing. Just an idea.

Date: 2007-09-04 09:34 pm (UTC)We have a HUGE black cabinet (roughly 5 feet tall, maybe 4.5 feet wide with double doors) and if I was able to finish the door inserts in a timely manner, would make a great picture. Unfortunately, only the stag cross-stitch is completed at present.
It would also enable a Gallery of folks' incense cupboards to send pictures in to post. :)

Your cabinet sounds really cool, I would love to see a picture of it, and a great marketing tool to get pictures of other's folks cupboards.

Date: 2007-09-04 09:45 pm (UTC)Fricking gorgeous. He embroidered it on plain green fabric (not cross-stich fabric) over the course of a few nights. His first embroidery/cross-stich project.
I'm hoping he can make a doe, looking the opposite way for the other cabinet door. I'll post pics in a moment.

Date: 2007-09-05 11:30 am (UTC)What kind of artwork do you need? How much are you willing to pay for it? (ie, do you want to try to hire Robin Wood for an original design? If so, www.robinwood.com). Or drop
Logo work takes time and is potentially hugely important. Patience, my dear, patience ... :D
I took these last night as I was leaving work

Date: 2007-09-05 03:20 pm (UTC)And yes, I've been known to work for barter. The trouble is, I'm not sure I'm your best choice. The one skill I *don't* bring to the table as a graphic designer is hand illustration -- I don't really draw. Now, that doesn't mean I wouldn't turn you out an excellent logo, but if I did it, it would not be by the most direct and straightforward route of just drawing your little incense cupboard. There are certainly other possibilities, which include things like "find a hand artist to collaborate with" or "modify some stock art" [there is some great cheap stock art out there these days, I'm not talking about modifying Microsoft clip art here] or "start with a high-contrast b/w photo and alter/filter that until you have something you can make an outline from" or any number of other things I regularly do to get around my handicap.
The rest of this might be easier offlist, feel free to email me at onyxtwilight at comcast dot net.
