Blow, blow and more to go

We're having our 2nd big Blow of the winter, this one a bit worse as it was gusting up to 70mph last night. Branches are down all over the yard and neighborhood, thankfully nothing was damaged though I did have a bit of 'put it back together' work this morning, including re-attaching the bio-filter feed hose (the pump hose became unattached and was spilling water onto the top instead of into the bio-filter, grr). I got little sleep, going out every hour to check on the critters.

Add to that Betty, the little brown hen, was MIA. Part of this was my fault, Sunday afternoon we'd relocated the chicken coop/pen to the east side of the blue shed and she likely had no idea where her home and sisters went. I felt especially guilty, as I'd tucked the Rhodies in for the night with an infrared lamp to keep them toasty. Thankfully, Betty emerged from under a bush (or something) this morning, so all is well at present.

Sam, the Yard Minion, is back at work after a bout with the flu. Poor kid keeps apologizing to me, geez, that makes me cringe. You're sick, please take care of yourself, the critters and I can wait. He's currently doing the quarterly clean out of the rabbit pens, I'm just not up to it this year physically and most all of my helpers are sick with the flu. He's sending me pictures via cell as he finishes each pen, which is cracking me up at the bookstore. Cranky bunnies, indeed! I'd forgotten to tell him about the new bunny, who surprised him by popping out from underneath the little garden desk (now located where I'd originally wanted it in the center aisle of Bunhalla). The text was priceless - "uhm, Tris, another bunny has moved in. You know about it?" He's also fixing the rabbit fencing in the West Wing - we've had escapes, as folks know.

Josh and Kevin bought hay on Saturday, thankfully, so it's tucked safely away in the blue shed instead of say - hanging out with a tarp over it in the middle of Bunhalla rotting and growing mold, like the others were. Grr. (I had told Josh that would happen, but of course, he knew better or so he thought!) More and more, Josh is doing stuff like that. He flipped the floor mats over in my new car. Why I have no idea but they've all been righted and he's been told to knock it off.

Our home has become a sort of sanctuary for our male friends going through divorce. Brenda has left Travis for a guy back in San Diego, Kevin is (still) trying to get Kathy to move out since she's still dating her boss. There may be a bit of magical push added to that last one. Kevin and Boo are staying weekends, Travis comes by now and again, including one late night where he accompanied me on my Insomnia Walk around the neighborhood. It's nice having someone to smoke cigars with and I'm happy to help a friend, but I missed the silence.
