One of my UK friends is sending me the freebie copy of "Wicker Man" being given out by the Guardian! What a doll, I'm so excited and grateful to his generosity!

Now, I have to find out if I can play a UK Region 2 on US Region 1 DVD players - anyone know?

Just make sure you're getting the extended version - the theatrical version left out a lot of crucial scenes!

Did it really? How bizarre! So it left out all the nudity and gruesome "flame the bastard alive" type stuff, I gather?

I'm not sure exactly what version this is - and obviously, I've got the boxed set on my Amazon wish list!

I don't know anything about standalone players, but if you have a DVD drive on your PC, it is very easy to go regionless -- there are ssome suggestions for that here.

Very cool, thank you! I do have one but its broken and needs to be replaced.

I've been checking our various DVD players against DVD hack sites to see if one of them will play it. A friend of mine mentioned that our local Navy Exchange sells "Regionless" DVD players, given that so many Navy folks buy DVDs all over the world.

It left out a lot of nudity and also some important setup stuff. Also, the extended version has better visual and audio quality for the most part, with the exception of a few sections they couldn't fix.

I'm so very annoyed with the news coming out of the remake, but trying to keep an open mind.

Thanks for the update :)

If all else fails, some enterprising college student with access to a media lab can probably burn a copy to region 1 for you. (Also, Indian grocery stores often have the capability to transfer PAL to NTSC videos, so that customers can watch movies sent from home. Some of them might be able to do DVD burns as well.)

This is the best site I've found on the film and its different versions. I've only ever seen the long one.

The box set is worth getting, it's got an interesting documentary with interviews with several of the people involved in the film, including Edward Woodward.

Thanks, G. We didn't get to watch all the fun stuff when Karin showed it to us for the Sabbat series.

Are you going to the March 25th rit?

One of the regionless players would be your best bet. Most of the PC DVD software will aloow you to change the region only a limited number of times before locking into whatever the last setting was.

The site Rim' mentions is probably the best place for info on the film, BTW. I've had it bookmarked for years.

Good to know, from someone who has tried it!

On the other hand, you could always ask someone you know to burn you a copy. :X

LMAO, yeah, that too!

I've got a few things I think you might be interested in, but wasn't sure of your take on all things copyrighted. :)

I SOOO need a copy of that.
hmm.

right. I'll start hunting tomorrow.
There's a book out about it's making. The book's a good read :)
Apparently NO version of the movie has all the scenes (they lost the originals and umm.... well it gets more complicated after that). every version is cool though :)
