As some of you are already aware, I purchased a dozen herbs to re-pot last week in a fit of springtime optimism. So interestingly enough, they are ALL still alive. Basically, a bunch of lavendar, catnip, sage, thyme, etc. And if they stay alive, it will be entirely due to a figure skater.

I'll explain:

Josh's friend, Kevin (who was such a doll during our move) came over to hang out. Needless to say, the guys had a blast and actually got quite a bit of work done around the house, including buying me a new DVD cabinet I'd been wanting to store all these DVDs (exactly the one I've wanted for a year!) and moving the crappy shelving unit out of the living room and into the Man Cave (Josh's den).

Somewhere around 2 pm the decision was made to BBQ Guiness steaks, which is kinda difficult since the BBQ is STILL at Josh's unit. I just figure they're going to grill them indoors, shrug and make my world famous pasta salad and generally consider for not one more moment the issue of dinner until I'm told to invite Cathy, Kevin's wife for dinner at 5.

Now, I've never met Cathy so this is one of those stupid phone calls: Hi, I'm Tris, Josh's wife and we're BBQing tonight and would you like to come. Its casual. Hope you like dogs, as we have three. Really casual.

All I know about the woman is she crashed the LBT (little bitch truck) Josh sold Kevin by forgetting to put the emergency brake on in their driveway and that she's a figure skater.

I'm thinking...kill me now. An evening spent with a figure skating Navy wife. Why not just invite the Chaplain Center over for my house to witness our Great Rite for Beltane, really?

Actually, Cathy is a hoot. She loves rabbits, so she goes googlie over our cutie mini-lops. She's a gardener, works in the outdoor department at the NEX and she's somewhat subtley into the occult. Something I didn't know until I showed her the Craft room, but she was really interested in the books and statuary. We planted all the herbs in various pots around the front yard, entrance and the front wooded border and she identifies the plants and trees on the property. Very cool. We discuss my insanely large (and growing) herb collection in my office, (J - neener, she likes my inventory system)! She's also a truly funny broad.

Somewhere in the middle of that I'm told they bought us a Weber grill with all the accessories as a house warming. Very cool friends, wowsa. Dang, these Navy folks know how to do a housewarming gift. Angie bought us a blender, tequila and mix for our housewarming. This is a very cool beginning and we haven't even scheduled the housewarming party!

At some point in the evening, the Muppets come up (I think it was when I was organizing the DVD cabinet and my large cache of Muppet DVDs was found) and in goes the DVDs.

A night of steaks, beer, spoiled doggies, redneck jokes and the Muppets (which are truly funnier the more beer you drink, hoenst)

All in all, a pretty good evening.
