Think of the trees!

Bad news for incense makers, the world's supply of frankincense is in danger. More on the frankincense issue.

Interesting article. I never really thought much about frankincense and where it came from.

I bought a wonderful book last month that goes into that sort of information - interesting stuff, puts the history of its use in economy and ritual into context.

My sister just sent me a book about endangered species. I usually focus on the animals but the sections on plants have proved very interesting. There is a type of flower called a tsodilo daisy that can only be found on two or three hills in a district of Botswana. I also learned that bumblebees are declining throughout Britain.

I'd heard about the bee issue from another friend in the UK - apparently the agricultural industry is starting to worry about the natural polinators at large.

Btw, thank you for the holiday card - we've got it up with a grouping of Giftmas bunnies!

Bumblebees have been declining throughout the Midwestern US as well, although they showed a slight increase last year. Cause of the decline is mites, they say. I suspect pesticide spraying also has a hand in it. Makes life tough for organic gardeners ...
