Date: 2007-01-19 03:38 am (UTC)When I was a young girl, a mama rabbit had made a nest in our yard. She was killed by a car and her 4 babies were left alone. I borrowed my neighbors play army helmet and made a nest for them, and brought the babies inside. They slept in my room and I fed them warm milk from an eyedropper. My mother didn't find out for weeks, until they started hopping around my bedroom. I only lost one of them; the other 3 I returned to the outdoors and they hopped away.

Date: 2007-01-19 03:43 am (UTC)When I was about 8 years old we had a green house connected to our home, with a wood stove to keep it nice and cozy. One very, very cold morning we woke up to a small bunny family curled up against the door trying to get the heat that slipped through the crack.
My Dad opened the door, let the bunnies come inside and continued to read his paper. When I woke up, Mom told me to be quiet and took me into the greenhouse to watch the bunnies nursing in front of the woodstove. I spent all day curled up on a wicker sofa watching them, since my brother and sister were considered too young to behave and kept out of there.
We had those bunnies all winter, and come spring they wanted outside and we let them go. It was one of the most magic winters of my life. And set me up as a lagamorph lady now. :)
