Monday, back to work - sort of
Jan. 2nd, 2006 06:40 pmJosh having today off as part of the New Years Day (observed) federal holiday, spent the day catching up on all those home projects he's put off during the holidays. Between the two of us, we went a tad overboard.
Given the strangely warm winter, Josh decided to hang the front screen door. The previous owners had resurfaced the front porch with a gorgeous natural slate, thus bringing the height of the porch up to the point where the screen door could neither move across the porch even an inch, nor be attached to the doorframe. Therefore, poor Josh spent the better part of the morning shaving an inch off the metal screen door with a Dremel tool, eating several attachments in the process. At this point, given that the Dremel was temporarily out of service, we decided to take a break and go see Narnia. Good stuff, but won't get into that here. A quick trip through the pet store for a new litter box for Reverend (ULC) Fudgemouski, then off to Cenex for additional fencing and posts to extend the rabbit den area was topped off by a visit to the Home Depot for nails and the aforementioned Dremel attachments. Having done a credit program audit at Home Depot during Spring 2005, whenever I stop in I say hi to Cindy and the gals at the customer service center - who were wonderful hostesses during my two weeks in their midst. It was really great to re-connect with the gals and make plans to hit the gym together on Friday.
Back home, and in the dark, we struggled yet managed to add quite a bit more area to the rabbit den - from a wild ass guess - I figure the rabbit den now has close to 100 square feet of frolicking area for them. Pic goodness to come tomorrow when there's enough light to take pictures. Needless to say, though the rabbits were pleased and a tad suspicious of their larger den, having us in their personal space while creating it was a cause for much displeased thumping in their hutch. The new cat box (one of those curved dome ones, which there is no way on Earth the dogs can get into for some Kitty Rocha snacks) was installed in the laundry room, freeing up the guest bathtub (where the older one has been since we purchased the house) for guests to actually USE the combination shower and tub. Hopefully, this will end the ongoing jokes about my "lack" of hospitality, since my poor guests have been forced to use the master bathroom for bathing. So the new facilities are ready, just in time for
wastedmouthful's visit tomorrow evening! As I write this I'm laughing, because best case scenario, Fudge will stop using the litter box all together and use the doggie door located conveniently 10 feet from the litter box - something he does roughly 90% of the time now, but not apparently in the rain.
I should be saying something along the lines of "Oy, am I ever tired!" but to be honest, I'm thoroughly wound up and want to keep going. We have definately earned our Cask & Cream tonight!
