An acquaintance of ours gave us a wonderful wood stove (new fashioned, not one of those lovely potbellies, unfortunately), so we managed to haul 300 pounds of iron onto the back porch where we will consider it for a bit while we shop around for firebricks, etc. Which unfortunately, we forgot to pick some up at Home Depot while we were there this morning. We did manage to get all new exterior lighting for the house. The ones that came with our house are a strange mix of faux brass and black fixtures, so we updated them to rather modern white ones (enclosed so no more BUGS - yeah!) Poor Josh is busy out back replacing the two lamps on the porch before tackling the one on the front porch.
We have two strong options for our work shed. We can have a gorgeous cedar building roughly 12 z 16 for about $2000, but we'd have to assemble it. There's a lot of pros on this one - its really quite lovely, comes with windows, a vent, double doors and all the shelves and counters. Plus, probably a weekend visit from my Dad, who is beyond excited over the concept of flying across thecontinent for a men's Barn-Raising three-day weekend.
Then there's our other option - a pre-fabbed Tuff Shed (same size but looks like a barn, including a loft) that comes assembled but costs $4500 without windows, vents, counters, shelves, etc. The pro on this is that they will assemble it for us (no additional charge) but by the time we get all the extra windows, vent, counters, loft, etc. it will run us about $5500 total plus we'll have to paint it ourselves since our house is a "custom color". Now, the cool thing is - when the former owners replaced the skylights in our home they left the original ones in the garden shed for us, so we can install them in our shed, whichever one we decide.
As much as I have my preference, this is Josh's work shed so I'm trying to stay out of it. Either will look fine out front, so now its up to the IRS refund to come in and Josh to make his decision. Now, if I can just grab a quick shower, make a few loaves of focaccia and do a REALLY quick clean up of the house before folks come over for our Pajamas Full Moon/Imbolc rite tonight, we'll be smooth sailing.
