Herbs, Herbs and more Herbs
May. 23rd, 2006 10:59 amQuiet evening last night spent harvesting Grand Fir needles while we watched "Capote". The Grand Fir is from a few branches we had to trim down to make room for the new rabbit enclosure, which makes me wonder if one can truly wildcroft in one's backyard.
We had placed the branches on the back porch to allow them to dry out a bit, as Fir sap is VERY sticky. The needles had soften up over the weeks and after I finished separating the needles from the branches, I spent another hour just running my hands through the large bowl, enjoying the feel and scent. I realize its May, but the scent of Fir in the house is very welcome, especially given all the rain we've had this week.
So now, if you need Grand Fir - do let me know.
I've been nipping outside between rainshowers, checking on the new Comfrey and Spearmint plants I planted yesterday. The Comfrey is a gift from the coven garden, the Spearmint from dear Anna. I'm hoping the Comfrey will fill the front bed, as its been very bare since we cleared out the larger weeds this Spring.
Actually, don't mention weeding to me - the front yard is absolutely verdant with weeds at the moment.
