trystinn: (buns)
One of the many things a rabbit foster mom has to do is overcome bunny cage shyness: where the bun runs and hides when you approach their cage, especially so when the door is opened. Prying a reluctant rabbit out of their cage is annoying and has the potential to hurt the bun, if you don't know what you're doing you can easily break their ribs.

Bribery with frosted mini-wheats, fresh baby spinach and dried apricots works amazingly well. Every time a human walks by, the buns get a treat. Everytime the door gets opened, they get treats and rubbins. The two buns are doing great with this, I'd say we're just about over cage shyness by now, well ahead of schedule.

Spent a hysterical and well supervised hour last night curled up on the sofa with Gracie and Flash, with Zen on my lap. Zen has absolutely no fear of the dogs and jumped all over them, snuggled with Flash and even permitted a few fond licks from him. When he was done scoping out the sofa, he came back to my lap and nipped my pj's for additional pettins. This is a demanding little bun boy, lemme tell you.

Example - Walked by yesterday afternoon and saw Zen doing this, which cracked me up:

DB, these are two very special buns. We're going to miss them like crazy around here.
