Dozy doze and little basset envy
Mar. 8th, 2009 02:30 pmThe other day, I left both of the bassets in the van for a few minutes to grab something and when I got back, Flash was in the driver's seat with Dozer in the passenger both looking like they were ready to hit the Oregon Trail. That honking heard in the store was Flash standing on the steering wheel.
Dozer, for his part, knows how to roll down the automatic windows in the van. And our van hasn't a window lock, so this becomes quite exciting. I spent about ten minutes yesterday holding on to his tail with my right hand while steering the van with my left. Needless to say, I now throw his leash loop over the arm rest to ensure he doesn't go flying out the lowered window.
On top of all that hilarity, Dozer has fallen in love with a very young German Shorthair Pointer. Now, when I say "in love" what I really mean is "humps constantly". So much so, that when the puppy's mother tried to pick her up under her front legs, she ended up picking up both dogs because Dozer's little bowed front legs were locked around the puppy's middle. Given that we spend somewhere between two and three hours a weekday with the dogs at the dog park, that's a LOT of Dozer humping. Poor little puppy, we were all laughing so hard we could barely get the dogs apart. Once she grows big enough to knock him off, things will settle down. I hope.
I'd barely begun to realize Dozer's burgeoning reputation in town until yesterday, when I was putting him in the van after getting his shots updated at the vet. I hear "MAD DOG RAPIST!" and spin about to see the puppy's mother driving by in her minivan, grinning like a lunatic and pointing at Dozer. Thank the Gods she has a fabulous sense of humor about the situation.
