Poultry Math and Pictures!

I managed to get outside and get a few things done in the coop this morning, something not easily done with the wind and rain pelting me whenever I stepped out of the shed. I still need to clean the coop, but the pen has been cleaned out and is ready for the new bantam Frizzles - I'm getting three: one cockerel & two pullets Sunday morning:

And the ladies, who both need names (Sugar & Pepper?), too:





All combined, that's +3 for the Banties.

I sold two KC/Runner ducklings today, so that's -2. The two rescue Rhodies are heading over to their new home tonight (around 6:30), so that's another -2 for -4. I've also sold (to be picked up this weekend) the two Ameraucanas & our Runner, so that's -3, for -7. So, we're down 4 birds total. Not too shabby.

And then there's the big news - Scarlett's clutch is hatching! I saw an uber cutie pop out from under the shed this morning. *dance of joy* A cute little blue chick, so s/he definitely takes after Big Blue. I've placed some Starter feed under the coop, but I'm not sure exactly where they are. I need to get fresh water out there, as well - so I'm soaking the waterers in bleach solution.

This morning, I spotted a little silvery blue chick under the coop so once the weather eased up, I crawled under the shed coop and nabbed the little family. Mamma and her 5 babies are doing great, protected in the East pen. Please don't ask me what I'm going to do with the Frizzles, I'm in absolute denial about that.

All five are a gorgeous poufy silvery blue with feathered feet and whitish chests and or bellies. And all have their mamma, Scarlett's, personality! Which is to say, a lot of it! Right now, given their Cochin/Rhode Island Red parentage, we're calling them Code Island Blues or the Poof Chicks.
