Cycles in Poultry Keeping
Oct. 2nd, 2010 11:15 amThe 4 little poof chicks are off to their new home, with another Navy family. I held out until I found someone who wanted them all together. The new owners promise to send pics as the chicks develop and would like some more. I'm thinking we're likely not going to see too many more clutches this Fall from the ladies, frankly we may never get another from Scarlett - who is not speaking to me at present. *sigh*
I'm told my egg order should ship next week, which means we may have chicks at the end of October. It will likely take me awhile to sort out who we are keeping (frizzled hens) vs who will be sold (everything else, basically). I'm also looking for a dozen Bantie Cochin eggs, as well. I've already got my Frizzled cockerel, Bonaparte, so all I need now is a few more smooth Bantie ladies. So I'm watching egg sales.
Big Daddy Blue is keeping a very good idea on the little Banties. Bonaparte isn't really old enough to be a protector. We're fortunate that Big Daddy Blue is such a good rooster and that being a Cochin, considers the Banties chicks and so takes very good care of them.
