Isn't it neat how amazingly beautiful written Hebrew looks? (I'm coming from a strictly artistic sense although that's a language I'd love to learn something of someday)
I'm biased, but I think all oriental alphabets are gorgeous (Hebrew included). There's an amazing book on the AlephBet (Hebrew Alphabet) by Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki "The Shing Paths" which teaches the individual letters and their magical, meditative energies in 1 week sessions.
Its absolutely stunningly beautiful. Well worth the effort if you're interested.
I happen to agree. I've been slowly studying Arabic for instance. Russian is beautiful too (but more in the spoken sense). *hmmm* I think I will look into it more. No rush though - I'm also studying Japanese, recovering my German, French and Dutch and noodling around with Icelandic, Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish. I'd love to learn more Chinese and some Hindi or Punjab... och I've got a weakness for languages :)
Written Hebrew does have an unusual amount of beauty though. Arabic does as well - but it's "balanced" differently. I haven't seen other written languages get that same sense although classical Chinese can get close.
What I love about the Alephbet is each letter is an Entity, speaking to G-d directly and having their own part in Creation. Similar in some ways to archangels, but having different goals and missions.
In depth study perhaps would be nice - but even a "survey" of a new language gives interesting and fascinating hints of a larger weave....
Oh? Wow! I always wondered where that came from. (not part of what I was taught and I kept running into this in my study of runic languages It makes perfect sense for Hebrew though :) (Arabic is a little different - but that comes from my exploration into Sufism)
