Just had a YIM conversation with an old friend and was telling her I was going back to graduate school to get my degree to become a psychologist. She asked if I was going on to get my Ph.D. and I replied "no interest at present in doing so, nor plans" and she sort of blew up. Told me you couldn't be a psychologist without a Ph.D. (completely untrue, btw), then ended the conversation tersely and disconnected.

Now, just out of curiosity - is this some urban legend? Some wierd misunderstanding due to movies and tv?

Folks do know you can be a psychologist without a Ph.D., right?

And yes, I realize the gal has obvious problems. I'm not going to psychoanalyze someone I haven't seen in eight years based on a YIM.
