Gratitude Journaling
Today I'm grateful for serendipity, as its already played a huge role in my life this week.
Monday Deb and I went down to the beach for a late afternoon walk. It was a fairly quiet late afternoon, with the exception of a group of girls on the dock, one of which was screaming in that "is this fun or is this an emergency"-kind of way. So we decided to casually walk over there and see what was going on. *sigh* Turns out the neighborhood yard child (a very over-developed, chunky ten year old) had allowed herself to be peer pressured into jumping in the water and scared herself silly. She'd have just swum to the beach, but the tide was quickly going out and working against her. Unfortunately, given it was already below 60F, the water was in the forties and her muscles had already locked up. So now she's panicking, cramped and holding on to the dock desperately while her friends looked on and made sarcastic comments. Perhaps if she'd been a strong swimmer she may have done better, but who knows - a life preserver or a ladder on the dock would have helped tremendously. Deb hauled her out of the water while I lectured the friends. We offered her a ride home, which she refused, then stopped by her mother's house for a little chat on our ride home. Fortunately, the mother was grateful we'd told her about the incident, we'd been expecting quite a bit of resistance. Gods knows I wouldn't have told my mother if I almost drowned myself. And Gods knows were I her mother I'd want to know.
Yesterday another set of neighbors dropped by with a beautiful bunny. Older male (unneutered), brown dutch. Gorgeous boy. Seems he's been running loose down near them and they knew I had rabbits, so they were bringing him home to me. I looked at that happy, contented little buck in the man's arms, up into the husband's eyes and knew he'd been hooked. Deb and I put together an older cage, water bottle, food and treats then I followed them home to help them set up the bunny at their home. The hubby is a carpenter and is now planning to build a beautiful wood hutch for lucky bunny this weekend. I'll drop in today to see how their first night went and maybe grab a picture of the cutie patootie.
Serendipity. Gotta love that.

As to the girl in the water? I'd let the mothers of the other kids know how they'd behaved. In a heartbeat.

If I had any idea who those girls were, I certainly would have. I'm keeping an eye out, lemme tell you.
