Josh, who shows no interest whatsoever in the Greek & Roman Gods, has become infatuated with the series "Rome".

Not a bad series with which to be infatuated, whatever the case may be religiously! It's still atop the list of my favorite things I've seen in the past two years! And I have both DVD sets and the soundtrack, and will probably get the book when it comes out as well!

We've almost completed the first season and we're both enjoying it. I adore the history, costumes and rites - speaking of which, how on target are they? I'm definitely learning a lot of new names to research, lemme tell you.

Some are slightly anachronistic--for example, we don't have hard evidence of taurobolic rites (as seen in the first episode) associated with the Magna Mater/Cybele/Attis cult until the 2nd c. CE, but the cult was alive and well in Rome during the mid-1st c. BCE when the episode took place, and in fact was there well before it also. What we do have on the nature of these sacrifices, however, lines up pretty much exactly with what they showed in the episode.

The same is true for most of the religious things in the show--some of those same prayers might not be exact, of course, but in general it's all pretty close, or at least in the right spirit of what would have been going on.

In the second series, there will be some Jewish stuff (though not a lot or an extensive picture), so that should also be interesting for you!

I find the Greek/Roman stuff fascinating, but yes I'm really looking forward to seeing how the Jewish story arc continues.

I think I want to look into that series. It sounds good.
(I only ever watch TV in "DVD" form. Pausing is nice)

We prefer DVD to live, I hate waiting another week for another episode.

I was really surprised at how much I enjoy Rome, I highly recommend it.
