The New Year starts with a Bang (and a Boom)

Being so close to several Reservations, fire crackers are very easy to buy and bring to the Island. And given our agricultural status, we have very few law enforcement or firemen for a boggling labyrinth of county, state and rural roads. Given that hubby has watch on the USS Abraham Lincoln, I'm tucked in with the dogs for a quiet night.

Except there's those damn fireworks. Flash is barking, jumping sideways and trying hard to hide from the big scary lights in the sky. Gracie, being the typical border collie, is anxious and snarling. Tracker has long given up the fight and is lying in annoyed stupor in front of the living room bookshelf, tucked behind our gorgeous green leather lounge chair.

Yeah, I dislike it when they do it unexpectedly in the middle of the night here in the school yard behind our house. The dogs go crazy and we find ourselves giving them the bird through the walls...
