Every day,
eighteen
war veterans commit suicide. Of them, five are involved in VA treatment programs.

The true human cost of this war, something the VA administration didn't want Americans to know.

Shhhh, indeed.

wow and could the running of the Va have anything to do with that?
First they shuffle you around then they loose you then they tell you you owe them money.
Maybe because the leader ot the VA is one ob bushes cronies??
Sort of like the leader of FEMA and we all saw how well that worked.

*shakes head and sighs* That is terrible. I'd never have guessed the number was so high.

At this point, more soldiers die once they get home than they do on the battlefield.

Its a national disgrace.

Whenever I think of the situation I feel physically sick.

What makes me really sick though, is not the Government (both UK and USA). It's the fact that the people know that their Government lied to them, that their sons and daughters are dying in foreign lands for those same lies, and that we sit and do nothing about it but weep and wail and gnash our teeth and have the odd bitch in the media and to each other.

Someone once said that a nation gets the government it deserves. How true that is.

And I'm just as guilty and implicit as my compatriots in allowing this corrupt and immoral government to continue.

There were six million protestors out in London against the war. This figure has gradually been reduced by the media to a couple of hundred thousand, but on the day, the reported figure was 5 to 6 million. I don't think that the police can get their estimates that far wrong. At the end of the day those 6 million people went home again, and the Government ignored them, effectively breaking the back of any true determination and resistance on behalf of the British people, the vast majority of whom are very against the war. What should have happened is all six million should have stayed in London and refused to budge until the Government listened. I'm not willing to do it though, and nor are most people, so like I said, I'm as complicit in the war as any of my compatriots, even the scum that is Blair, Brown and the faceless morons of Whitehall who decide policy.

Even if the Vet did not go to war, the military leaves one not quite ready for the non safety net of freedom. As in free from healthcare
mental healthcare. That unemployment benefits that last only 15-20 weeks after you get out.

The great training you get when you are in..isn't that great.

If you drive truck, your HET (Heavy Equipment Transporter) 110 ton truck license is not worth the paper it's printed on in most states.
(California and New York to name two)

I always said, "The Army teaches you to kill and break things."

BTW did you know that this administration quietly did away with the low cost VA health insurance plan for Vets back in 2005?

Yeah vets had a PUBLICLY available health plan that I did not know about until I read the news story about it going away 6 months after the fact.

At this point, the unemployment appears to be lasting almost a year where we are. We've had several very experienced and trained men removed from service because they were a bit tubby.

Blech.

I saw this and didn't want to post it.

This is one of the many reasons I'm in favour of supporting soldiers : it doesn't look like the governments (or military) will.
It's a big sadness - and when they come home it will be....
...well, those who have good families to welcome them should mostly be ok. Many others? I don't know.
