Likely you're right. And I'll admit to being a snarky old curmudgeon with regard to martinis: a martini is a cocktail made with gin or vodka and white vermouth. It may be garnished with a twist of lemon rind or with an olive. Anything else is NOT a martini.
The Sazerac, OTOH, is a classic New Orleans preparation, made with rye whisky, a bit of simple syrup, and the New Orleans local products Peychaud's Bitters and Herbsaint (an anise-flavoured liqueur similar to Pernod.) The Sazerac may be the oldest cocktail recipe, as it's been served in New Orleans since well before the American Revolution. It's a preparation that should be sipped graciously, rather than swilled.
