Why a little knowledge is a bad thing . . . Darwinism in Incense

If I see Jimson weed listed one more time in an incense, I'm going to start smashing heads.

In other news, I had to shave Gracie's tush to treat her heat rash. Needless to say, she looks a bit odd with a square patch of shaved skin and white OTC cream.

That...what...I mean...

[identity profile] tryst-inn.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. Some goober named Lady Rose plastered it all over the Internet. And while the amount to whole is minimal, its fricking ridiculous to chance that.

If it doesn't outright kill you, it'll definitely make you psychotic.

:walks away muttering:

...jimson weed inscense... incredible...

eek!

Myabe she's into hallucinogens?

some people need all the (questionable) help they can get to experience the divine ...

[identity profile] keastree.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah. :makes the clueless luser sign:

These morons get Jimson Weed and Salvia Divinorum put on the DEA lists with this crap because they are after escapist highs and fake religious experiences.

"Lady", my ass.

I remember a run on Damiana about 15 or 16 years ago, because it was supposed to improve sex. Shit got put in everything, and I am not sure that it offered much help to the incredibly uptight people who were seeking it out. Of course, the stuff is way liver toxic, which most of them don't care about until they mix it with acetaminophen(to cure the headache before sex), and alcohol(to lower inhibitions due to being so uptight anyway).

Yes, a little knowledge is dangerous.

Yes, it certainly is. Sadly, these are the kinds of folks running about 90% of the covens out there. Remind me to tell you about the Yule a covenor made a clove intensive incense because she was tired of me "hogging all the glory". Yeah, glory, that's why I make incense. Meh.

I posted a warning over on Twowitches blog, I'm sure they are going to argue with me about it.

[identity profile] keastree.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Of course they argue. They base all their knowledge on a single source(if that much), and then backfill with hearsay from internet forums filled with dopes and yes-men like themselves. It would seem that their whole sense of self-worth is dependent on being percieved as wise and knowledgeable--and permissive. We all know what happens with parents who are like that....

Feel for you, but I also know exactly why we have to speak up about this stuff.

It would be helpful if there was a website with a page listing all the common ingredients (or even not so common) things that can kill you, hurt you, etc. when burned.

Until I find one, I'll keep adding things to my Safety Page on Triple Pillars. Frankly, I thought people would know better than to burn jimson. How naive I am, Kea.

Thank Castaneda for this. I'm not sure if Harner did tacit promotion of the psychotropics in his work or not, but I do remember all the Don Juan crap being filled with bad information and high drama involving both peyote and jimson.

Honestly, these people don't care. It's all a power trip for them that ends in a big ole head rush with every 'you are SO wise' comment. And, in the time honored fashion, when they piss one crowd off, or do something stupid and take some heat, they just wait 6 months and they collect a whole new crowd of syncophants. All forgiven, and they do it all over again.

Oy, its been so long since I've read Castaneda.

[identity profile] tryst-inn.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
Way back when I was too stupid to know better, to trusting to wonder, I worked with such a group. Several, in fact.

Now I know and speaking up is generally what gets me into major flak with my upline though I do hope one day they'll be proud of me when they rip me a new one. :)

One of the reasons why I stopped hanging with eclectics, and sought out BTW was because I tired of this kind of thing.

Meanwhile, they up the ante among themselves, go for the big crowds, and post shit like that racism BS on Witchvox.

[identity profile] tryst-inn.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Remember that witch from WifeSwap? One of the groups I used to work with hired her to run their online seminary. Oh yes, they did. Flopped big time, of course.

Sadly, they found a Lexie group that initiated the leaders so now this shit is in BTW.

[identity profile] keastree.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yanno, there's a reason why we place such importance on finding out if someone is Proper before playing with them. ;)

If you ain't, I don't.

[identity profile] wild-heart.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Jimson weed. Okay then. When I was still in high school, there were wetlands filled with the stuff in the town I lived in. I remember the articles in the paper warning against it after a couple of kids died from smoking it.

Did I ever mention that a very short (say, 1 minute) walk from my house is a yard just overgrown with datura in bloom?

[identity profile] tryst-inn.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
No, you didn't. I bet its gorgeous.

Tonya and I went to our beach last night to watch the moonlight on the water while sitting on the dock and chatting. Magical evening with a good friend. :)
