I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.
[...] when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"
Couldn't stay up to watch the final results, but all day yesterday I was reciting exactly that speech like a mantra. Maybe it was that I'd seen it on a Pt's wall the other day. Maybe it was that the same Pt passed at 2a on election day. Maybe it was how very much Dr King's speech has always touched me. But it was that speech being my mantra, all day long.
I woke up to the news this morning. YES WE CAN!! I'm crying.
Just to tack on another piece of poetry, much less well known ... "now the dancing will end, though only for a time as we who dance today return to work more quietly in the world to bring old magick to a new birth." -- "Danu in Changetime", S B Fisher
My local paper quoted a guy on a bus this morning. "Rosa Parks sat so MLK could march. MLK marched to Obama could run. Obama ran so my gradchildren can FLY!"
I has a sad for California, though. Nice to know it's still OK to hate gay people....

The first African-American President-Elect of the United States.
And not just by the Electoral vote--but the popular one as well.
