DOOM is often avoidable. I hate to think what would have happened without the preparations.
I'm sure you already know, but for anyone interested: Rabbits stop eating when they are without water and without nearly constant eating, they easily lose their healthy gut bacteria and so when water is again available, they cannot digest it properly and lose its nutrients.
