Yehawwwwww!
All the outdoor rabbits are tucked away in their pens in the new Bunhalla. Each 'bay' is approximately 16 feet long by 6 feet wide, half of which is covered with roofing to keep out the rain, snow and direct sunlight but the other half is available to play in the sun. The East side is now comprised of three of these bays - Noir & Nyx at the back fence, Mufasa in the middle and the one closest to the Gate is kept as an exercise pen for the indoor bunnies. Thistle had a fabulous time bouncing around in there today. We've moved the three independent pens to the far side of Bunhalla, so they are tucked out of sight but ready should we get more bunnies in.
We rigged a gate for the middle aisle and the front arch, so I can use the center aisle for potential adopters to play with each bunny or more generally, as another indoor bunny exercise pen. In a pinch, I can toss Flash in there and keep him out from underfoot! I now have hay storage at the back covered in tarps, a couple of Adirondack chairs for hanging out and all it needs now is a cooler! I'm kidding on the last part, but you never know.
The old Bunhalla was almost completely gutted. All the local hardware stores were completely out of field fencing, so we had to re-use the brass fencing sections along the front of the bays. Chicken coop fencing finished off the other sides (ugh, messy!). Tim spent much of the day re-installing the rock border around the exterior of the new Bunhalla, which should keep the rabbits from trying to tunnel out. We also dissembled the Orchard House, the pieces of which are now incorporated into the new Bunhalla. Libby, scamp that she is, had a marvelous time chasing hay around the pens.
Half the neighborhood kids came over to "help" - whee! Josh and Kevin hooked up the wagon to the riding lawnmower and gave everyone rides, which was wonderful fun. I've never seen these kids so excited. Bunnies and hayrides. What a combination!
Picy goodness to come tomorrow.
