We are on schedule for our Project Week, which is a great start. Today, Josh transformed the old rabbit hutch into a secured Night Hutch for the ducks. The bottom stand has been fenced in, a duck door installed so I can open it to let them out in the mornings.

The ducklings, entering their 2nd week of life, are growing like crazy at almost an inch a day. The larger duck displays gender-based behavior and we have come to think of it as Bernard, our Drake. The rest of the ducklings follow Bernard around, ducking their heads as he raises his. They are all swimming and beginning to forage, carefully penned and supervised during the day. Gracie is taking her herding duties quite seriously, she's quite the Duck Nanny.

Tomorrow we break ground on the pond. :)

We're definitely getting a huge kick out of them, though we're making sure to keep them safe from Libby and Dozer. :)

There's so much for me to learn about them, I hope the pond fencing we bought today is enough.

Awww ...

Whenever I read your posts I have the desire to come help but seeing as we are clear across the country there is no way I could.

Hummm ... perhaps we should take my husband's advice and move to WA. =P

Very cute! You're developing quite the menagerie up there, aren't you?

[livejournal.com profile] erynn999 would like to come up and see your place at some stage, and of course we'd just love to hang out with you more. We'll let you know when that's a possibility...

They are surprisingly cute, yet fierce in an odd way. Thank the Gods none of them are biters (yet). :)

Aw, we'd love the help. Whenever you have time, move across the U.S. We'll be here at least 5 more years, from the look of it.

LJ seems to have eaten my reply, sorry for the delay.

We're working on a bit of sustainable living, that weird alley in our backyard seems to work great for that sort of thing!

Lemme know when is good, we're pretty open schedule at present. Josh has a PGR tomorrow to Tacoma, but he's home Friday - Monday.
