The Last Flock Additions (aka Swedes, you complete me)

I picked out two of the cutest little Blue Swedish ducks this morning, picy goodness below. One has a funny little top knot, which reminds me of Phyllis Diller (Phyllis Ducker?). Both are safely tucked away in the brooder, now located in the Dining Room. And Gods, are they loud!

Out of sheer survival instinct, I also purchased a 5-gallon duck waterer. Given that (fingers crossed) we'll end up with 9 ducks, continuously filling smaller and medium sized ones will drive me nuts! This should also help folks who are watching the ducks for us, as it's a top filler. I still can't find a feeder that allows the ducks to eat their feed, but won't allow Martha or Libby to do so. Oy.

It's hard to describe how beautiful the Khaki Campbells (KC) are, something unexpected with what is otherwise a plan brown duck. Not only are their feathers incredibly soft and silky, the variegation of their feathers gives them a lovely dappled effect in the sun. Not that we get much of that here, but you know. They are almost large enough to forage in the yard, once the dogs are safely tucked away in the house.

The R&R ducklings are in that awkward adolescent stage. Not large enough to be unsupervised in the enclosure, but getting annoyed that they cannot hang out with their KC siblings.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but those ducks are really beautiful.

It's truly amazing, isn't it? I've spent most of my life looking at ducks (my grandpa was a freelance photographer for National Geographic) but I feel like this is the first time I've really seen them. The Campbells are amazing, gorgeous lines, graceful in their waddling ways, and remarkably vain.

Josh thinks it looks like they have had their feathers highlighted. *WEG*

Well, the blue bills certainly bring out their eyes. (My brain is now filled with imaginary duck-ish beauty spa chatter.)

I want to cuddle them. :-(

They are at that adorable "hold me!" stage right now and sweetly befuddled asking "where'd everybody go?"
