Sunday's Idle Hours - Picy Post

I'm enjoying a gorgeous Whidbey Island Sunday, 52F though overcast and yet, sunny at present. We're scheduled for rain, and it can be seen approaching in the sky. I have not been of any particular use today around the house. The bathroom and kitchen mats, towels, etc. are in the wash and the master bathroom floor has been tidied along with the sink scrubbed. So much for my week of hard cleaning.
Compared to my mother, I barely decorate for the holidays. A few table center pieces here and there:

And in the windows:

A garland or two over the curtain rods:

Something festive on the door:

A few spiders on the woodstove and scattered about:

Mother goes all out, but then she can: she has the budget and storage space. I have neither, really. Just a few favorite things I've accumulated over the years, mostly from my own finds or gifts from her. I have a particular fondness for rustic American folk craft (not that hideous kitchy crap).
Example of hideous kitchy crap:

Mum has an eye for it, so I'm very fortunate to receive beautiful, simple pieces. This year she sent me crudely cut bats with rusted metal wings strung on a rusted spring garland. Its perfect on that humongous ginger jar lamp she sent us ages ago:
Speaking of holiday decorating, my favorite witch figurines Frances and Jet have been brought out to the front of the house and are settled on the dining room table. Unsure if they are staying there for the duration, but I must admit they look like they are having a lot of fun:

Date: 2010-10-24 08:44 pm (UTC)I lucked out with the pumpkin last year, as you know I hate orange and so thought about heading back and grabbing more of the gord-shaped ones but they were gone when I did so. *sigh*
Whatcha up to, today? I thought I'd run a few errands in town, do you have hubby to babysit?
