Irony Alert: Pagan couple goes to Hannukah on Christmas

Yep, given the date - we'll be attending Hannukah on Christmas.

Wednesday is Josh's initiation date, which is creating an interesting mix of joy and nerves. I have no idea why, there's not really an opportunity for him to make a mistake. In this, about the only mistake would be napping during ritual! To which, I've given the HPs permission to give him a good goose. Initiating someone as ticklish as my husband is going to be hillarious.

We've been making it all a bit worse, by warning him to eat a big meal to stave off getting light-headed from the blood loss, drink plenty of fluids, the fire really dehydrates you, get plenty of sleep the night before, as the ritual is somewhat strenuous, etc. Cackling opportunities galore!

Busy day in the bookstore. Listening to NPR instead of Celtic or Christmas music, even I get sick of the Chieftains and Loreena McKennit now and again! A delightful New Agey lady came in earlier (who is a friend and neighbor of the bookstore owner), looking for a new tarot deck for her Wiccan daughter and a new tarot book for herself. We had a wonderful discussion on Wicca, Tarot, Ceremonial Magic and KBLH. Even gave her a card to our Pagan Night Out Group, told her that if her daughter wants to use our circle, spriral walk, etc. she's welcome to come by.

The 'dance' one does with someone to figure out if they are pagan- or witchcraft-friendly is so interesting. And while, yes, tarot is typically a bit of a give away, its difficult to assume. However, once one finds an opening, the conversation can be very interesting. For us, the opening was "Ellen Cannon Reed". Witchcraft espionage completely with code names. How beguiling!

I'm expecting hubby and Glory to come by today. We're going to give Glory a chance to see if she'd be a good store dog. What an exciting life I lead, eh?

I am pretty open about being a witch and most people that I meet know me off here and the forums, but meeting new people can always be fun. The best thing (as you probably know) is to ask about various authors. If they have heard of them good, if they haven't then you can always pretend they write Mills & Boon :)

The New Age/Occult/Pagan/Witchcraft (whew!) section is right near our ordering desk - so I get a good look at folks sifting through the section. Always fun.

I'm fairly honest, if the person seems open-minded, but I very forcibly alert people that NO, I'm not interested in training anyone and NO, I'm not starting a coven on the island anytime soon.

Please Gods, let that last one be true!

*sigh* I miss Ellen. She was Good Peeps(tm).

Poor Josh.. so ebil... did you remember to mention someone needing to remember to bring the razor wire? ;-)

Didn't think of that one - though we asked the gal who owns horses to bring us some extra rope, as he's a big guy and will take "extra rope".

rope

Would you prefer one used on cattle or on horses..... lol

He gets to eat and sleep before his initiation? Lucky.

Going to make an ostentatious show of bringing a first aid kit?

We're doing an initiation on Saturday. There isn't anything I could do to this woman to whip her into a more stressed-out state than she's doing to herself already!

at least you didn't mention the cattle prod...that would totally ruin the surprise!
