Poultry Movements - Geo-Bachelors

After considering our unusually sunny weather, I decided to go ahead and stick the Geo-Bachelors (aka the returned Silkie cockerels) into West Wing Pen #2. The extensions don't have any roofing, so very little shade from the sun. Just what they can gleam from nearby trees and what little roofing kicks out over from the regular pens.
They seem okay, just a bit confused. Frankly, I'm not sure they've noticed, these are Silkies, yanno.

Date: 2012-07-09 03:57 am (UTC)Silkies are somewhat oblivious, perennially stupid and incredibly friendly. They make great pets because of this and great brooders, because they will raise ANYTHING. I've had mine raise ducklings. They can't fly, they cannot roost and they can't really be trained. You can't allow your Silkies to free range because they will never find their way back to the coop at night. It takes me weeks to train them to go into their little hutches at night in a 12 x 6 pen.
The only thing dumber is the Polish chicken, because they can't see anything due to the feathers on top of their heads, so you have the Mr. Magoo factor on top of it.
A friend of mine called me yesterday to tell me one of the Silkies I sold her drowned. In water it could have stood in. Sad, but completely foreseeable to an experienced Silkie owner.
I must have something for dumb critters. I have Bassets, too. :D
