Odd days

Ran errands yesterday with a friend of mine who lives mid-island and while we were shopping at the market we saw a woman standing in front of the grape display shoveling and I mean

shoveling

grapes in her mouth with both hands. Since I was standing at the florists stand when it happened, I mentioned it to the florist on duty who essentially either a) didn't understand enough English to understand the situation (I'm guessing her native language was tagalog) or b) didn't really care.

When we were going through checkout, I saw Grape Lady over at the Starbuck's stand inside the market buying an iced coffee. She then went back to her cart, took a quick hook and beat it out the doors without paying for the items in her cart (no bags, etc.). Now, I'm laughing my ass off and holding on to the conveyor stand, trying to explain to my friend that the Grape Lady has made a getaway. The bagger was a bit developmentally challenged, so she ignored us but the cashier just shrugged and went back to tallying everything. When we went outside, we saw Grape Lady putting all her items, one by one, into the back of a VW hatchback then drive away.

I can't put my finger on exactly why, but this has been making me chuckle ever since!
