When I give, and I do, I give to secular groups with a proven track record and a public set of books, so I know what is going where and who benefits. End of story. So let me tell you that story. I give to
pushkas
, those little cans and boxes at stores and businesses. I try never to carry coinage around with me. Somewhere, someone needs those pennies more than I do. When I return home, if I have any, I put all my change in the Tzedakah box which I keep in the front window of my home, its a lovely stained glass box (itself a gift from an anonymous friend). I encourage guests to do the same, especially if they are jingling when they arrive. Jewish friends coming up our driveway often laugh as they see the Tzedaka box in the window, it sets a precedent they understand quite well. Its a bit lost on pagans, which is why I'm talking about it here.
