Incredibly sappy rabbit rescue story
Nov. 7th, 2007 07:52 pmWinston is actually Bugsy. Let me tell you about Bugsy.
Bugsy is a three year old house rabbit, having the whole house to roam along with his doggie pals and has traveled extensively on family vacations with his family. The Mom runs a daycare in the afternoons, while she takes care of Grandpa and everyone has been heart-broken over the loss of Bugsy. The kids were worried that the mean cat across the street had eaten him, so the Mom has been calling all the area vets and finally saw the WAIF's "Found Rabbit" ad in the free weekend paper.
The little girl of the household has been praying to the tooth fairy to return her rabbit. See, she figured since rabbits have big teeth and the fairy specializes in teeth she might know a thing or two about Bugsy's whereabouts. Makes complete sense to me.
Cannot tell you how good it felt to be standing on the front porch with Bugsy as the kids got off the school bus and ran up the front steps, crying "Bugsy's Back!" as they took turns holding and kissing him. The son tucked Bugsy under his chin, tightly to his chest and thanked us. By the time we left, everyone had teary eyes. I think we even managed to impress Bugsy, he looked adorably satisfied and totally spoiled. Mum thinks they may want another rabbit or two, so we'll be expecting a call.
So why do I rescue rabbits? The Tooth Fairy makes me do it. Apparently.
