Poultry Movements
Jun. 23rd, 2010 11:20 pmGreat success today selling poultry - I'm having the time of my life! I sold two Buff Cochins, 1 Amerauca and 2 Dark Brahmas to Bob one of the Penn Cove Grangers. I offer a Grange discount on the 4th chicken after you buy three chickens. All others must buy a minimum of 4, then I offer a discount on the 5th. I still have 7 Ameraucanas, 2 Polish, 1 Dark Brahma and what I think are 1 Black Copper Maran and 1 Hamburg. I have two upcoming appointments, Thursday (for the Amereaucanas) and Friday (the two Polish).
We've decided to keep two for the Island County fair to show them in the Poultry contests, so the ladies are tucked up tight in Chickenheim with our home flock for the night (poor Scarlett). I'm not sure if we'll put them up for sale then, we'll make up my mind later. Josh named them both, so no blaming me! Better pics to come!
So welcome Pompom (aka Pomy), the Polish:

And Smokey, the Blue mystery pullet (maybe a Hamburg or Andalusian):

We've also moved the Blue Swedish ducklings in with our duck flock in Duckgard. They immediately ran to poor Granny, our adult Blue Swede and she's been fairly tolerant of them so far. We may actually have a foster situation there. The Black Silkies are alone in the brooder at night and Chickenheim pen during the day for their protection - the ducklings were getting way too big and there was a real possibility of a trample injury or death for the tiny Silkies.
