trystinn: (ducklings)
Damn LJ keeps eating my posts!

I managed to get everything set up so we could begin as soon as Noah got here. I was telling him I was very concerned about overcrowding in the East Wing pens once we divided them and he told me he could easily extend the individual breeding pens 12, possibly 18 feet each. Buhawahahahahaaaaaaaaa!

Stage 1: COMPLETE
We've re-fenced the East Wing pen across the front and south side, which were the vulnerable sides. Noah helped me round up Nera and her ducklings, then we did our best to identify the drakes via sound, coloring and vent-checking. The drakes are now sporting blue rings for easier identification. The 2 KC/Rouen mixes have been identified with purple rings, we think they are both females.

Stage 2: Scheduled for Friday
Noah will install the additional fencing posts, thankfully I'm pretty sure I already have the 4 posts in the scrap pile, we'll need another 2 for the interior fencing. We know we can easily get another 12 feet in length on the pen, with 18 feet across the far side. We may be able to steal a few more feet across the length, we'll see how it goes. No need to fence the north as the wood property line fence will do nicely. We'll do our best to get that fencing installed Friday.

Stage 3: Scheduled for Friday
We will put up 2 additional fences and 2 posts to separate the East Wing into 3 breeding pens: Blue Swedes, KCs and Rouens. Each individual breeding pen will then be 6x24 (possibly 30) feet. Plenty of space for breeding.

Stage 4: Completed 8/13.
Finish the roofing on the West Wing. The bunnies are enjoying the sunshine, but once the Autumn rains begin they will be quite miserable. Noah is really raring to go, so this may happen out of sequence. I need to buy another 6 or so PVC roofing panels which are pretty pricey, I have everything else we need.

Stage 5: TBD
Build the front gate! I'm so tired of the ugly mess out there now, what an eyesore, not to mention its falling apart and no longer secure.

2+ hours of fencing is a hell of a lot of work, but it feels great to have it done. Now I'm off to the shower, then sushi to celebrate!
