Just got a phone call from Deb asking if they could "borrow" a sage stick to purify their new house this afternoon. Given that I'd been planning to give them a gift bag of purifying items, anyway - so sure. Then, she wanted to "borrow" salt, since she ocean harvests and doesn't think she has enough. I buy kosher salt on clearance after holy days, so I've got tons of it. Sure.

Just waiting for the phone call asking for a broom, bowl, moon water, crystals, etc. Shall we lay odds?

Its taken them three months to close on the house. All three members of the household are pagan, no one thought to acquire these things beforehand? Or did they just assume someone else in the household would provide or acquire? Geesh.

I'm... a bit improvisational. I've purified my new home with whatever was in my spice cabinet, iodized table salt, and tap water. Near as I can tell, it seemed to work just fine. But I'm non-traditional, so, uh, I guess that also means not picky.

Don't invoke the Water Elemental in circle. A dear friend of mine made that mistake as the Element Priest, his chalice had more water in it at the end of the ritual then it did at the beginning - and that's after pouring libations and sprinkling.

Nope, its LJ. It keeps telling me I'm not a member of several groups I am - had to request to join, again.

Folks like to clean out their altars and give me stuff, I've got pounds of unidentified incense cones, sticks, etc. I re-gift whenever possible.

We've found a handy use for such identifiables is to use them to bless fires. Just toss them in, chant and call it good!

I actually make my boyfriend stop along the I-90 on our long drives to see my family so I can collect sage from Eastern Washington. Mind you, it isn't WHITE sage, but I do get to leave an offering and the perverse satisfaction of making things myself. I am more and more of a DIY pagan. Sure, I buy the hard to find stuff, but gods help you if you ask me to send you a spell kit. I will give you a scavanger hunt list for your own home.

*sigh* Its okay, they needed a bowl (which they haven't returned yet) and artisian water, but that's the sort of thing neighbors do for one another.
