Another gorgeous afternoon here on Whidbey Island, another day of foster bunny goodness on the backporch. We've two petplay pens sitting side by side to keep the buns apart, so they can play outside for four or five hours a day.

Its incredibly difficult to catch a bunny with an aging digital camera mid-hop or mid-stand. Dang.

The pantaloons slay me.

This... improves my mood slightly.

Especially the first one of Peony.

And, another random rabbit question for you - how hard is it to introduce a new rabbit to an adult solo boy (all neutered)? I bow to your bunny wisdom.

Easier than mingling girls.

Here's what you do: get two cages, one bun in each and slowly (over days, weeks even) push them together. They'll sniff and lick through the fencing, that's the good stuff. There may be a few posturing tiffs, but give it time to settle down.

When things seem peaceful, try sitting on opposite sides of the sofa with a friend, each of you with a bun in your lap. Neutral territory works best. Keep a good hold on them, you're looking for minimal interest and curiosity as the best sign. Best sign is each of them cleaning, a sign of trust and joy. If they see each other and turn their backs on each other, that's a sign they find the other bun rude.

If that works out, try some supervised play time in a large room - but don't force them together. A little humping is normal, its a dominance show.

After all this prep, either it goes pretty smoothly or its so natural you wonder why you went through it all. Don't rush, let their behavior be your guide.

That first shot of Peony shows Bunny Disapproval at its best. :)

Oh yes, girl bunnies are very good at disapproving bunny looks. Especially when I'm holding her in one hand at arm's length to take a pic!
