Since Mum has just arrived home from her annual pilgrimage to Colorado to visit her sister, I've received two emails. The first was chatty with only the slightest tinge of guilt for not joining them this summer. (Summer in New England? High humidity, my mother's house airconditioned to a fingernumbing 50 degrees, constant shopping - I'll pass, thanks!)
I responded back quickly (I know from experience that if I don't return emails in ten minutes she'll call me on the cell phone to see if I'm ok) reminding her that hubby has two VA trips this Fall and that our Anniversary is today.
Her response?
* Her blood pressure meds need changing
* Our health is very precious, hers is delicate due to her mild arthritis and high blood pressure
* Travel is bad for healthy eating
* The Family thought my feeling may have been hurt since I couldn't attend the reunion (due to my Initiation, but I didn't quite tell them that!)
* They'll "dovetail around" our schedule (yes, she used that phrase)
* I should come visit while Josh is back East, so I won't be alone
* She hopes I'm happy, but everyone misses me
* She's found a new Gin she likes (Martinis are a religion in her life)
Ahh, I do love my mother, but she does live the stereotype of the Jewish Mother.
