Josh has been notified of the new addition. *whew!*

Not only has she begun bullying the dogs, she's gaining quite a lot of weight. When we brought her home she was 1.2 pounds, she's now about 1.6 pounds. Her fur, thankfully, has gotten much smoother and silkier with the combination of flea treatment, Omega 3 oil and good food. That said, she's eating no less than about a dozen times per day!

Also, for those curious and into homeopathy - citrus kills fleas, so most lemon dish washing detergents will do quite well to rid a small pet of fleas. I've been rubbing her down with lemon oil which makes for a very odd smelling, if clean, smelling kitten.

The vet today gave me an omega3 and other things supplement for Pepper. It's made from red palm fruit oil. Because of stress and/or illness, she has stopped and started her summer molt several times now, and her skin and coat are a MESS.

I went ahead and spent the $10 on what she recommended this time, but do you think flaxseed oil might be a good substitute/alternative if it happens again? With it looking like she's going to have chronic pasteurella, it's going to get spendy but I still want to take good care of her.

Hmn, that's a good question. I take Flaxseed for my eyes (chronic dry eye due to allergy medication) but didn't realize it was good for the skin, as well.

May have to research that one.

I used to take it for the Omega fatty acids which are helpful for heart stuff (I have high cholesterol) and general anti-inflammatory stuff as well as possibly good for depression. Plus I have a really shitty diet.

I switched to a fish oil supplement because studies show it was slightly more easily absorbed. But I doubt Pepper would want fishy-oils :) The vet gave us Sunshine Factor, but it's $10 for a week. So I was wondering if maybe flaxseed oil would be a possible alternative if it turns out to be helpful.
