I just bloody fucking knew it. The smell of fuckup trifecta is hanging in the air.

I ordered 16 4x4x6s of which more than half was absolutely unacceptable. Chipped, frayed, huge knotholes, splinters 4 - 5 inches long, fist sized chunks missing you name it. One of the 4x4x10s was barely acceptable, the other looked like a swift kick would bring it down. The way I figure it, they gave me contractor rejects. The crap professionals won't take even at half wholesale. Problem is, I spent most of my teens working for my Dad's contracting company. Shit materials = shit build. Sorry, no dice. No inspector would approve this crap and nor will I.

I'm not expecting perfection here. But these are the support beams for a roofing structure with an extensive gutter/gray water system. These fail and the Bunhalla bunnies will be killed by falling debris. Hell you couldn't even lean against this stuff, you'd end up with splinters buried in your arms and back. I am not going to endanger our rabbits and our friends with shoddy materials.

Needless to say, the delivery guy wasn't thrilled that I refused more than half the order. I am less than thrilled, too. Replacement shipment due Friday. Or else.

You've got to be kidding me. No, wait. I know you're not.

Time for another scathing letter?

Jay and I had to get a 2x4x10 last weekend. We had to look at nearly a dozen of them to find one that didn't veer off like half a wishbone. WTF is it these days???

Since Chris has the business relationship with these guys I'm going to let him handle it when he gets back from Wenatchee. Frankly, I would have preferred we pick them out singly at Home Depot but I got shot down as that being "too anal retentive". *growl*

Margins are cut so close, there's no incentive for employees to watch for quality concerns since they know management won't back them anyway.

As someone who recently was depending on good lumber to ensure the safety of a number of people working with a 14000 pound rock, I agree with you wholeheartedly.

Thank you. I'm sure somewhere there's a guy in an office thinking "picky bitch". And that's fine, as long as I get better quality wood.

Guys always overestimate the quality of their wood, and think women should like it more than they do. :)

I think they figured you were an easy mark, a woman a house wife, and there for what could you possibly know about wood quality.

If it had been at all subtle, I wouldn't have been so annoyed. But this was absolutely crap wood - not worth making anything other than firewood.

You'd have been proud of me, I didn't even lose my temper with the guy. Stayed quiet, calm and assertive. Cesar would have been proud!
