Sam came by this morning and got my critter chores done. Both chicken coops have been cleaned out, as have the rabbit pens and the center aisle of Bunhalla. All duck watering bins have been cleaned out and refilled. My pride has taken a bit of a hit in admitting I'm not up to those chores, but as Sam himself said "what's my age?" At 16, all that takes him a little over an hour. For me, it's closer to 3 hours and I'm completely wiped and sore at the end of it. The watering, egg gathering and feeding is only 10 minutes, twice a day, so I can handle that.
Scarlett, the larger and lighter colored of the two Rhodies, was quite funny this morning. Around the foundation of our home are small, semi-circular metal barriers around what I suppose are vents. Scarlett laid an egg in one of them, who knows why, and was concerned I wouldn't find it. So she perched on the rim and squaked for about 15 minutes straight at a little after 8am. Needless to say, I came out to check on her. Once I grabbed the egg, Scarlett trotted off happily to the shed to wait for me to spread some scratch around for her and Ruby. Cheekins, geesh!
I've sold the Magpie pair. They new owners will come over on the 29th to pick up the ducks, which is wonderful. We'll be down to 15 ducks at that point. MarkliAnn would like a few breeding pairs, including a Black Copper Maran pair, when they purchase a farm down in Oregon. Those departures will leave us with some room for Spring chicks and ducklings. Yay!
