Finished up in my Psych 310: Psychology of Learning Theory. Thank the Gods!

Not that I didn't find the discussion interesting, the teacher quite fabulous (though he likes Dr. Laura Schlessinger - major disappointment there, just under Anti-Christ in my personal pantheon of Hell), but the quick semester format SUCKS (high brow word for an English teacher, eh?) for this kind of class. Plus, the textbook was so laced with complicated, technical jargon it was like reading the instructions to your VHS while trying to get rid of a really horrible crank addiction.

Wouldn't you know it? Next session begins October 31st. Shit. Bad timing. I've got a few more pre-requisites to do, if I choose to do them now instead of waiting for January for the graduate program. But its probably best I take them now, given my fairly open schedule. Since I'm desperately trying to avoid both Child and Adolescent Psych (call it PTSD from my days in the public school system teaching), I was hoping for Abnormal Psych, which is waitlisted. Not sure if I'm on that list, though I'm supposed to be.

Someone asked me why I'm bothering to get grades in these classes when I could audit them for the credit of having taken them (vs course credits) for the graduate program. I told her my competitive nature wouldn't allow it.

Ironicly true.

I'll never understand why so many pagans (of varying types) get so hung up on the 31st as an "actual date" (I'm not saying you are, must making a general observation). Last I checked, the Celts (for example) didn't have our type of calendar.

I tend to consider the "actual" observance as when the sun is 15 degrees Scorpio.

But even that doesn't matter so much to me, as I feel the seasonal shift in the veil for a longer period than one night.

In any event, I save the 31st for handing out candy to trick or treaters, the week before that for parties. And then observe Samhain as a seperate event.

Just babbling; pay not attention to the woman behind the curtain.

Nope, I know exactly what you meant. I can be pretty fussy about lunation for full moons, giving only a three day margin, but for Sabbats - yep, go by the astrological date.

The hang up had to do entirely with being home to hand out treats to kids in our new house. Especially since its our first Halloween here.

Its amazing how much education teaches you about learning theory and how a good background in English and Etymology helps you decipher all those inane jargon terms.

I majorly fear school admins. Come to think of it, I fear learning how to interact with my fellow faculty members, too. Yep, the kids are the least of the worries!

My advice? Don't mention you're pagan - cannot begin to tell you the anti-occult rantings in the faculty lounge.

You got it. I'm not going to be the type who is open at work. I had a bad enough experience with being open about it at school a few years back.

Where did you work? Any particular districts or schools I should avoid?

Hmn..Marysville is scary, too many strikes and the district distinctly targeted scab teachers. Got a call myself, really offended by that. I'm told Mulkiteo is a dream, if you can get in there. Same for Island county, where I am.

I worked in Massachusetts, Berkshire county. Different system, entirely.

Have you registered with the Washington Department of Education website? I still get calls from them looking for substitutes, etc.

I'd also recommend avoiding Algona, Kent, etc. Really scary folk down there, used to belong to a coven thereabouts and was routinely frightened when I shopped near there.
