Kevin and Josh were busy this morning building brooder pens around the three ducks.

For Babs, the Black Swede in the Duckgard nesting box, we repaired the pen fencing destroyed by Spike. I tucked in some food and water for her, then secured the nesting box from the outside with a few cinder blocks. The entry into the pen is still available, if she wants to get out in the sunshine, stretch her webbed feet, swim, etc. She's incredibly devoted, so likely as not she won't, but the opportunity is there.

For Nera, the Rouen duck, and the unknown Khaki Campbell under the tarp, the boys strung up a short wire fence around the entire compost heap. I moved one of the water bins into their brooder pen and set a bowl of feed under the overhanging roof from the East Wing of Bunhalla.

I have no idea what to call the latter - Broodlympus? Quacklyn? Duckingam Palace?

Odds aren't really great for any of the broody ducks, they are sitting on so many eggs, though! Even if we only get a 70% hatch rate, we could end up with 30 or so ducklings! And frankly, I really don't have any idea what mixes we're going to see with our two drakes, Brutus the Rouen & Bernie the Khaki Campbell. Likely have to sell them as mixes, though there's some slight chance we'll see a few full bred KCs and Rouens. Any of the ducklings from Babs will be mixes, of course, as we haven't had a Swedish drake in almost a year.

Ostara is coming very late this year! Ostara II, anyone?
