trystinn: (Eggs)

We're on Day 6 (of 21) of incubating 48 Silkie eggs. My turner only holds 42 eggs, so 6 are sitting in a half of an egg crate, being turned (really tilted) every 6 or so hours. It will be interesting to see how we do with those eggs.

For those curious, this is how we ship fertilized eggs for incubating (before & after):

Today little Flip, the standard Frizzle cochin chick from our first incubation attempt, was delivered safely into his new mother's hands. Sherry is thrilled with him and cannot wait until he's large enough to make little Frizzled chicks for her.

We picked up five little pullets from her, including three keepers, two Bantam smooth cochins: one black and the other an intriguing black/gray/brown combination, and one smooth-feathered Silkie black.

Our new pullets, compared to Salt, from our previous incubation set:

The very satisfied Napoleon Blownaparte, surveying his new harem (with a tushie shot of bantam Frizzle Cochin pullet, Pepper, who is not so thrilled with her new roomies):

The other two we will likely sell including the one in the middle is a Sizzle (like Napoleon) which we cannot breed here. The smooth-feathered Silkie on the right, we can, however:

Flash, who somehow snuck in on this set, would like to remind his adoring fans that he adamantly does NOT do mornings:

Why can't you breed Sizzle?

I have no words, once again, to describe my joy in reading your Furkids Friday post. I so very much wish I could come out for a visit.

Ah, I should make that clearer. You cannot breed Sizzle to Sizzle or for that matter, Frizzle to Frizzle. In either case, you end up with a very delicate feather that breaks easily, leaving the chicken naked. In the case of Frizzles, its called Frazzle. I have no idea if its called Sazzle in the other, but I will look into it.

I'm so glad you enjoy them, it feels so prosaic to put them out there. We certainly would to have you visit but we're planning to see if we can work in a little shoehorn visit in May with Rhomlly. :)

Doodle wakes up with his entire spirit screaming "ITS MORNING", Flash and I wake up with our spirits yelling "SHUT UP ALREADY!"
