Health is very much on my mind today, especially as we've lost our beloved Paigemom. I'm in absolute denial about that, especially since we'd been trying to schedule a visit for this Spring when her diagnosis came in. I simply cannot imagine our lives without her humor, support and warmth. Alex and Keely are in my constant thoughts.
I have an idea as a tribute to Rhomylly. I know a lot of us are frustrated artists. Rhomylly was a successful author of multiple books - so in memory to our friend, I would like all of us to work to create one work of whatever our art is this year and dedicate it to Rhomylly and her family.
If you write, finish that poem, that book, that essay and remember her on your dedication page.
If you take photographs, take one of something Rhomylly inspired in you.
If you sew, knit, etc., create a new work in her honor.
If you get proceeds, consider donating to a Beagle rescue or cancer organization in her name. Hell, donate to an accordion museum or a home for wayward knitters. Whatever reminds you of her.
Rhomylly and I had a book idea we'd been kicking around for awhile, considering the idea of writing it together in partnership. I'm going to write that book by myself and finish it THIS year.
Anyone in?

Date: 2011-04-12 03:52 am (UTC)You're on. I'll put some more notes together, gleamed from old emails and send you the concept and character descriptions. Its easier to tweak the big stuff before I really settle in to writing.

Date: 2011-04-12 02:42 pm (UTC)A friend of a friend had a severe stroke and has had to go into a nursing home. She was a life-long crafter, and had tons of unfinished projects and materials in her home that she won't ever be able to use again.
So my friend started asking around to her in-person and online friends and she ended up sending packages to lots of us - and we are finishing the projects, starting new ones, working the materials into things we do, and taking photos of them to share with her. I forwarded some embroudery supplies on to a friend who is on a fixed income so she can't always afford nice supplies. I reserved some to work into trims on a coat I'm making. For those who finish the projects to donate them (like afghans being finished and given to a homeless shelter), one of the ladies designed a label for them and they get a note about where the materials come from.
Even though Annetta can't finish these projects herself, she is delighted to see her work and materials out in the world - and it helps her feel useful and connected when she's mostly stuck in her room.

Date: 2011-04-14 03:01 pm (UTC)This death reminded me of that. I think the problem has been priorities, finding time to start one of the ideas and follow through.
So enough procrastination, I will start the one on pagan grieving.
