Just about knocked myself unconscious this afternoon, when the decrepit old rabbit hutch lid came down and knocked me in the side of the head. I had to sit down for about 5 minutes until my head cleared. I knew the thing was a piece of shit. I didn't know it was getting deadly. The left side of my face, ear, neck and head is covered in scratches and bruises. I've been making do with the damn thing because I can't fix the pens by myself.

I need help, local folks. This Saturday at 10am, I'm asking local friends to come by with their family and friends to help me re-fence Bunhalla. I'll be baking and cooking egg-related goodness, as well as ordering pizza. I'm asking that folks bring their own sodas, juices, etc. since I have no idea what folks drink these days. We'll be serving hot coffee, tea and our sweet well water.

The weather report is calling for clear and mild, in the fifties.

Recommendations:
Wear galoshes - its muddy out there!
Wear a sunhat and/or sunscreen
Wear gloves and make sure you have your tetanus up to date!
Sturdy clothes that can get dirty
Extra staple guns - I have two
Extra shovels or spades, we need to bury the fencing 6 inches underground

Hope to see you here!

How long a project do you think this will be? My first instinct would be to say yeah, I'll come, but 10am is awfully early for me when it would be an hour plus driving to get there. I could possibly bring my brother, if you're likely to still be working by 1pm-ish.

You are welcome whenever you can be here, Erynn. I'm sure we'll still be working at 1pm because these sorts of things take a few hours just to get in the groove on. And we'll need to take breaks and get folks drinks, snacks, etc.

Basically, we have three stages:
Rip out/off the old fencing
Dig a border to bury the fencing
Install new fencing (to include replacing dirt on either side of buried fence)

We'll also need to move Luci-fer from her broody nest and get her set up in one of the pens so she can keep her ducklings safe once they hatch. Right now, she's built this little nest between two upright pallets.

With any luck, we'll be able to catch the ducks and put them in the breeding pens. That should be video-worthy, I think.

Okay, we'll be there. Send me your address and phone number so that I'll be able to find you. I'll stop and pick up a staplegun and staples for it. My brother does construction-y things and has also had to do stuff like catch geese to take them to the vet before, so he's got some bird-wrangling experience. It'll be good to get him out of the house anyway. He's doing his best, but not having work is driving him a little nuts. He says he'll be happy to come along and help out.

As for me, I'm probably best equipped for the "baking and making things" part of this whole whatsit, given my physical limitations, but I'm perfectly willing to help out with that!

That all sounds great! I sent you a pm backchannel so you'll have my info - though I forgot my cell, so that's in a separate pm.

Would if I lived closer. :-( You know I'm all about the renovation work.

Stop hurting yourself.

Ooh, I think I'd love having you in the kitchen to take advantage of your cooking. :D

I'm going to have to give you a raincheck for May, I can't get a housesitter for long enough to do both trips next month. I absolutely promise you a visit this year, though. Other than August, when I have a family wedding in Colorado, I'm pretty open until late November or so.

*pout*

Merc retro can kiss my fat ass.

It's possible that the rest of 2011 can as well.

We'll reschedule. It's all good.

well, it seems that slicing open my finger a few weeks back and having to get a tetanus shot was serendipitous after all!

As I said we will all bet there though we don't have any extra tools.
