These wee things
Aug. 7th, 2011 07:37 pmSpent much of the day taking care of things around the house, then a nap. Kevin came by after his new bed was delivered and helped me fill a few waterers, etc. given the relative heat of the day. We then head out to take the garbage and 2 recycling cans. All that old fencing and misc yard stuff went, as well. So very glad to have that pile gone.
We also picked up a Splash and a Blue Maran from my buddy Marc. Hopefully the new ladies will distract Big Blue. Since our other Splash Maran is named Bianca (also from Marc), I've named the new one Batilida. The Blue Maran I'm calling Belinda. Both are molting, so in poor shape. We'll spoil them rotten and get them fat and happy. The beautiful chocolate eggs these three will be laying will be gorgeous!
Wendy, our smooth-feathered Silkie, is currently brooding on a very large clutch of eggs, easily over a dozen. Given how small bantam eggs are, its just a little too much for her to handle. Not sure how long she's been at it, likely about a week, possibly longer. She'll start pushing out the duds, so I'll keep an eye out.
Basically, we have a Silkie population explosion hanging out in the near future. Another week and a half for Blanca, 2 weeks for Wendy (plus or minus). Hopefully, Leslie will finish that other brooder soon. Very soon!
