Ending on a positive

We've found a new farmhand, thankfully, the son of a friend. He and a friend came today and cleaned out both coops. They also moved the large branches that fell during the week's storms, which tidies up the yard a bit. Gracie and Doodle were thrilled to have two young men to play with, though Flash is withholding judgment until girlies arrive.
Tonight we're dogsitting for a neighbor, an old flat-coated retriever so they can enjoy a rare night out together on the mainland. As you can imagine, everyone's very excited to have him here. He's already caught himself a duck but since they'd never taught him to fetch, he just stood there with the freaked out duck until Josh gently removed it unharmed from his mouth.
Adventures, I tell you! The big rooster is keeping a very good eye on all this merriment with great disapproval. From his over-protective behavior, I'm thinking we may be seeing a few clutches soon. Onyx is already showing a few signs and a couple of the ladies are ripping feathers. *cross fingers*
