Whidbey Island has been oddly protected, as had much of the Pacific Northwest, from the extreme summer weather. Its odd to watch the national news and see such high temperatures everywhere, all while Flash is curled up in a wool blanket and I'm wearing a fleece jacket in my living room. At 59F, we're fairly comfortable and only expecting another 8 - 10 degrees as the day progresses. Which places us firmly on the short/long sleeves boundary. Hard to imagine, really.

Kevin arrived home late last night and in a rare bit of logic, they dropped him off at the terminal on base where his truck has been parked. I'm always happy to pick people up from trips in town and drive them home, but post-migraine isn't my best day.

Still dealing with Tricare pharmacy screw ups. The system says I've used up all my refills, while the bottle specifically says I have 1 more remaining. I'm bringing it in to show the Pharmacy Supervisor and hopefully my doctor has ordered another refill, as I called in the request around 8am. I truly hate doing that to her, she has patients to see. Likely going to have to make an appointment to see her soon, as the pharmaceutical industry is no longer making my migraine medication - Midrin. I have no idea if I should go in with a request based on research or just let her prescribe me something, then come home and research it. Narcotics do not work well on me, so I'm most hesitant about this. Any suggestions?
trystinn: (ducklings)
Little duckling Prima is doing great. No sign of additional ducklings from Mia, however. Wendy is a wonderful mother and has taken excellent care of her little charge. I'm going to rig some sort of box for them to get out of the wind, as our back porch is part of a wind channel on the south side of our home.

The demolition derby was great. Could have done without the Elvis impersonator, though. I'm not a huge Elvis fan to begin with and the audio was quite poor. The audience was particularly quiet, which drove the folks running the show conniption fits. They kept screaming at us to get louder, rowdier, etc. We all ignored them. *grin*

Vicky and I had a particularly lazy weekend, so now I've got to catch up on chores this week. I'm stuck doing laundry all day today, hope to get the vacuuming done, too. I've dusted the front of the house already and we're going to need a dump run soonest. Not to mention a grocery run.

I was able to find someone on Freecycle who was willing to loan us a bunk bed for our exchange students. Once he heard about our situation, he offered to deliver it, so the pieces are hanging out in the foyer waiting. Tiger's husband, Jim, is coming over after her checkup to help us swap out the beds. I'll have to head into town this afternoon to pick up the girls, will do a bit of shopping to find bedding for the bunk beds. He's not sure he wants it back, so I'm to call when we're done with it.

The full size bed that's in there now will likely end up stored in the meditation room for the next month or so. Shouldn't be an issue, but we will be shoe-horned in here for awhile. I can likely get Tiger's permission to store it at her home, so we'll see how things go. Frankly, she could use a guest bed for a bit.

I'm waiting to hear back from the command as to when my slot is for the video teleconferencing with hubby. About all I know at present, is we're on for Saturday.

Update: I've removed everything I can from the guest bedroom and am waiting for Jim to arrive and help me move the full size bed, assemble the bunk bed and move it into place.

I'm beginning to feel like I'm counting Omer here, instead of counting down when Josh returns.

Wanted to share a good laugh with everyone. I went to check on how the bantams were doing now that they are in a portion of the shed coop. Rodrigo was hiding under Big Blue. Go ahead and re-read that part. *shakes head* Poor Rodrigo, I'm starting to think he's has self-esteem issues. Big Blue, being the gorgeous and tolerant rooster that he is, was handling it well.

Walked outside this morning to feed the critters and was immediately shocked by how muggy it was. Generally speaking, we don't get muggy here. Its too chilly and there's too much ocean wind. Neither of which is happening today.

I'm leaving soon to take Tiger to her cataract surgery, her hubby is home thankfully on leave, but they could use some extra support. So that's me. I should return in plenty of time to pick up Vicky, our Chinese exchange student, at 4pm. I've warned the representatives, just in case. I realized last night that we hadn't made a Welcome to America sign for her. Not sure we can fit it in, either.

After that, we need to hit the market and get her whatever she'd like for her school lunches. I also need a few ideas for dinner. The way I eat now, I don't really do meals, but this is a teenager so we'll have to do the whole dinner table thing.

The coatings on my glasses, likely the anti-reflective and the tinting, are starting to peel off. Friends are starting to tell me that its driving me bonkers. Two have promised to take me frame-shopping.

Have I mentioned how much I hate shopping for new glasses? Without my prescription, I can barely see myself in the mirror, much less figure out if that discolored shape looks good. Ugh. Here we go, again.
trystinn: (Default)
Tiger and I both had blood tests in town, though at different places, so that took up most of the morning. I hate fasting blood tests, I have to drink gallons of water so they can get a decent stick.

Now home, I've called the painter and asked him to come over to see what his estimate would be for painting that wall and likely the ceilings, as well. I'm at my absolutely patience limit with this painting crap. It must get done and quickly. Or I'm going to do something stupid and do it myself - likely end up in the hospital with an allergy attack to all the latex. Grr.

Noah, the Farm Minion, and his brother are here working hard. The brother, another Joshua, is busy taping up all the trim to paint. If I were really the all-together gal I like to think I am, I'd have thought to buy a gallon of house paint so he could fix the main color, as well. And I need more tape. *headdesk*

Thankfully, Kevin called from the feedstore so I could remind him what dog food brand BooBoo likes. Something he does literally every payday. You think he'd figure it out sooner or later. Or not. I took horrible advantage of him calling by asking him to grab me a 50 lb bag of starter feed. That'll learn him. Or not. Either way, BooBoo gets the good for his tummy food and I get chick feed.

Poor Noah had to nab the ducklings and pop them back out of the pen. They keep squiggling back in somehow. And yes, I really need to get pictures, mea culpa. Might even try to do so today, its uncannily bright out there today. Someone must have sacrificed a goat.

Spent most of the afternoon running errands in Oak Harbor:

Finally have two filters for the Dark R2, the Sears dealer had them. Returned the wrong one to the NEX.
True Blood Season 3 on DVD was purchased at the NEX.
Commissary run - somehow I ran out of shakey cheese. *smacks head* How did that happen?
Father's Day cards have been purchased & already filled in, addressed, etc. Will mail tomorrow.
Grooming appointment has been made for Gracie for her summer shave next Monday.
Doctor's office has been called, message left requesting labs to be ordered ahead of annual physical.
Cute pictures of the Bassets napping together have been taken.
I tried to let the ducklings out of their pen to join the flock, they ran back in. I popped them back out, they ran back in, again. I popped them out, slammed the pen door shut and they ran at the door screeching. I gave up and popped them back in. Stockholm Syndrome, whacha gonna do?

Meanwhile, Scarlett, the Adventure Chicken, is supervising the neighborhood from our front porch.

Yep, just another day around here.
trystinn: (Cauldron)
Spent the day cleaning, which was immediately made futile when the Craftsman vac started shooting dust out the back end. *seethe* I'd tried to make due with the incorrect filter that the NEX insisted would work, which basically filled the house and my lungs with dust. Not good. All that hard work dusting was wasted. *shakes fist of death*

I'd invited Kevin over to watch Unstoppable on Netflix DVD, so I ordered pizza online to be delivered this afternoon. Love that ability - order pizza, set the time and forget about it until the doorbell rings! Movie was actually pretty good, lots of energy and fun. And of course, since he was over and helpless, I managed to corner Kevin in helping me with some chores - outdoor critters, helping me pull bedskirts into place, remaking the beds, etc. I gave him a break and let him go before I cleaned out the dirty brooder.

I'm not sure what happened, but we found one of the Splash Marans dead in the backyard. Under the treeline and untouched, which makes me think it was a health issue vs a predator. Raptors leave feathers and pieces (hope you haven't just eaten) and four-legged predators leave their own hallmarks. This evening, when I tucked the other standard-sized chickens in the shed coop, I gave them some extra attention. The sister to the dead hen is grieving, I hadn't bonded with either but we'll give her a little extra attention and see if we can bring this around. We'll miss those gorgeous dark brown eggs, as will our customers.

Our Silver Swede ducklings are ready to go to their new homes. Noah has a line on folks who are looking for two, so I'm waiting to hear back. Babs, our Black Swede, is brooding her little heart out which hopefully will pay off in healthy ducklings. We'll need to figure out where she and the ducklings are going soon. Which necessitates another conversation with Noah. I'm assuming that other ducks are brooding, as I've not seen most of the gals lately. At least one duck, as per above, was likely nabbed by a Bald Eagle or similar.

I do promise pics this week, I will try for tomorrow.
trystinn: (Default)
I need to finish getting around and get on the road into town, there's still roughly a dozen errands I need to run before I'm ready to step on the airport shuttle. Thankfully, the airline called with an automated check in so I'm set there. Just need to find a sky porter and have my luggage checked in.

Since I'm going to be spending a good portion of the day in the car, if you're trying to reach me via phone you likely will get a text in response. Mea culpa and all that. The Naval base doesn't allow cell phone use at all while driving, even with a hands free device.

More to come later.
trystinn: (Default)
Woke up with an unproductive cough and a low grade fever, which necessitated a lazy morning napping into early afternoon. Kevin finally made it over to my house so we could load up the pickup, drive over to Tiger's and load up her trash cans, then off to the dump.

I've been popping inhalant without much relief, may need to see the doctors before I head to the Northeast. At this point, it may be the Scotch Broom blooming due to the unusual run of sunny weather we've enjoyed. Of course, today the rains returned. We even drove through some hail this evening.

We had decided earlier to drive over to the Mainland for dinner and a bit of clothes shopping at the outlets. I introduced Kevin to Sakura, a wonderful Sushi & Hibachi place in Burlington. We found Kevin a bunch of new shirts at the Eddie Bauer store and me two summer-weight jackets for my trip.

Came home to some very hungry Bassets and a very happy Gracie, who'd been hanging out with her pal BooBoo much of the day. Even Doodle is chipper tonight. Unfortunately, BooBoo had to go home with Kevin tonight, so its just us four. I'm going to try a hot bath to soothe my lungs, then off to bed. Tomorrow Flash and I will be in the Bookstore and I'll be packing for my trip when we get home.

Prep Day

We've been celebrating Passover Week by taking turns hosting dinner or dinner out. Last night at Tiger's, Renne & Jim decided that we needed to start learning card games for our cruise. We then proceeded to stay up until midnight learning Pinochle. Game was hampered on several levels, among which there was only three of us. Jim, who knows the game well, ended up playing two hands (his own plus the widow's), the 4th player represented by a black candle. Hence a volley of gags that ensued: "Candle is a jackass", "damnit, Candle won the trick again", "Candle, damnit, we can't possibly get enough hit cards to score that bid!" We just might have to take candle on the cruise.

Part of the hilarity is that this candle is bizarre. Its a carved black candle with sparklies on it. It was a gift and Tiger has yet to light it, so its been on the dining room table for awhile. I personally call it the Pimp Candle. Maybe you had to be there.

I overslept dreadfully today and I still need to go into town and buy the necessary equipage for tomorrow - fencing, staples and groceries. It'll have to wait until Wolfie comes by, she's painting the trim on the exterior of the house and I need to get her setup before I can head out.
trystinn: (Obey the Basset)
I spent the early part of the afternoon getting a bit of organization done around the house. Roughly half the stuff on the kitchen countertops, hard liquor and bill desk have all been re-organized and in most cases, moved. Which took a heck of a lot longer than organizing the recycling for tomorrow's dump run. I even had time to wash the loveseat sofa cover, which sets me ahead of schedule going into the weekend.

I managed to muscle the exercise bike back to the Master Bedroom today. Its basically just plopped in the middle of the room, but I expect to finish the organizing and cleaning back there to facilitate its new location over the weekend. All the furkids are shedding enough to make replacements of themselves, so the whole house needs vacuuming and dusting.

I have dinner plans with friends tonight (Sushi, again, yay!) and on the Mainland tomorrow, so given the dump run and cleaning I'm going to need a nap tomorrow afternoon. Frankly, I could use one now. *slump*

I would like to mention that Doodle has missed you all desperately and has promised to sit (or in his case, lay) for portraits tomorrow. He's been a sweetheart today, having very politely stood next to the refrigerator wishing with all his might for a carrot while I was cleaning. He was waiting with such vibrating intensity that even BooBoo noticed and when I finally turned around, the both of them were staring forlornly at the fridge hoping the carrots would fly out of the veggie bin and into their ready mouths. It could happen, you never know.
trystinn: (Default)
The weather changed on us last night from t-shirt weather to see your breath coldness. Woke up to rain, will likely fall asleep to rain again tonight. Kevin dropped off the BooBoo yesterday, so now the four dogs are bored out of their minds. And *someone* got into things to entertain themselves while I was out this afternoon running errands with Tiger. And yes, Sushi was had for lunch!

I gave Noah, the Farm Minion, the day off yesterday to enjoy the sunshine with his friends. He arrived early today to clean the coops and clean the moss off of my roof. I need to buy something to spread around up there to stop more moss growth. Any recommendations? I made sure he saved it for any local friends, so if you could use some let me know quick.

Marc, my Chicken Addict buddy, texted today asking for egg crates. I'm currently drowning in them, the stack on top of the fridge was almost to the ceiling and I've a few boxes of them, as well. I was thrilled to drop off a huge box of them, then pick up 8 dozen eggs to sell in town on his behalf. Managed to sell 7 dozen at my first delivery, then gave my boss Diane a freebie dozen. Which means, I've got enough to buy another bag of feed. Woot-woot! Hobbies that pay for themselves rock!

The rest of our errands were a bit on the dull side - post office to drop off boxes for Josh filled with healthy and not-so-healthy snacks. You win some, you lose some. Spent way too much time at the Naval Hospital picking up prescriptions. The Ophthalmologist on base was concerned about my dry eye (Diabetes, too much computer time and antihistamines), apparently the over the counter stuff I've been using isn't strong enough. I'm not sure I understand this correctly, but the OTC only gets to the outer layer of the cornea and I need moisture deeper into the cornea. So now I have prescription, non-preservative (of course I'm allergic to the preservatives) eye drops.

I had completely lost track of the approaching Easter holiday, busy as I am trying to commit to a Passover dinner somewhere. I have two gorgeous little nieces who are likely counting on their Auntie Trista to spoil them rotten. Cute little things have been purchased, packed nicely into collapsible Easter baskets and packed for shipping. My SIL and I have an agreement - I don't buy much in the way of candy, I let their parents and grandparents handle that. Instead, I buy cute costume jewelry in cute little animal-shaped boxes. I buy little stuffed animals, stickers, Crayola sidewalk chalk, books, cute little clip-on stuffed animals for their school backpacks and purses, etc.

Came home to see the new neighbors move into the house on the corner that's been vacant for years. This is the same one that I routinely catch the neighborhood kids in, which I warned him about. He's changing the locks, so hopefully that will help. He's an older disabled man, very heavy and likely doesn't get around well. The house is wheelchair accessible, with a ramp and low counters. Should be a good home for him and his wife. The grandkids are very nice, they promised to come by and meet the midget chickens as the call the banties. Should be fun.

I also dropped by my backdoor neighbor, Vicki. She runs the doggie daycare that makes for loud mornings and afternoons when the dogs are dropped off and picked up. Frankly, I'm relieved at that because my Bassets are right out at the fence barking back much of the time during those times. We enjoy a mutually beneficial doggie zone here. We shared our concerns about the fence between us, the lower part is hanging a bit. I'm going to buy a few pieces of pressurized wood, then go over and hammer it into place. She can paint it to match her side of the fence. I can't access that area on my side of the fence due to the thick bushes, which I explained. She's recommended one of her employees as a dog & housesitter, which is a huge relief. Gods knows none of the ones I've chosen have worked out in the past.

I bought another plant for the pots on the front porch. I'm a crappy gardener and I do wish someone would take me out of my misery and just arrange pretty little pots and boxes for me. *sigh* Sadly, there is no senseless act of beauty in my front yard. I should try harder, though.

Time to sign off, the dogs are whining about dinner and I've some lovely Pesto Sausage from the butcher I'm going to pop into some pasta with olive oil and a hint of Alfredo.

Busy!

In the first 24 hours of double dosing the Lantus, I've managed to clean pretty much the entire house. I haz energy! No stamina, sadly, that I'll have to work for. I also ran three loads of laundry and groomed poor Winken into the Angora version of a puppy-cut for Summer.

File under, "me likee" - I've lost 15 pounds in the 9 days I've been on Insulin. Not bad, at all. Granted, I'd made massive changes to my diet the week previous. I'm not sure how sustainable this sort of rapid weight loss is, but I'm on track to tuck under 200 the first weekend of May. That's a goal worth working for. My goal is 155, which on the BMI calculators is within the "normal weight" for my height and hopefully enough to keep a bit of curves on me. At the "ideal weight", I'd be back in B cups and my husband would be crying himself to sleep each night. :D

Had dinner in town with Kevin, again. He was in the mood for Mexican after a particularly fraught day of trying to ride his motorcycle around the neighborhood. Pitched himself ass over teakettle over the handlebars and learned a few things about physics a 20 year career in firing officers and artillery at the enemy couldn't. He's now talking about replacing his gravel driveway in favor of pavement. I voted in favor of pavement. :)

Josh sent me a list of healthy snacks he wants me to send to the boat. Another $80 at the market, very little of it for me. I did however buy the HUGE bag of carrots at the market, it fills the produce drawer entirely. Doodle is in heaven. Sheer carrot-loving Doodle heaven.

Not a bad way to end the day, giving a little soul joy.
trystinn: (Default)
Given the unexpectedly gorgeous day here on Whidbey, the motorcycles were out in force including a dear friend from the Mainland. I drove into town to meet up for coffee and convo. Its always nice to have friends with shared interests on the Island.

Dinner with Kevin at Zorba's, as per our usual Friday ritual. He's loaning me a space heater to warm up the house until warmer weather sets in. Looks like I'm gonna be dogsitting the BooBoo for a few weeks later this month. Woot-woot. Booboo-age! (Because Boobage has other connotations!)

Came home to find Doodle chewing on something. Thinking it was a piece of firewood he wanted to exchange for a carrot, I asked him to give it up and he refused. Which is really not like our Doodle. He's surprisingly generous about giving up his treasures, though likely putting up with Gracie constantly stealing his toys has made him resigned. When I knelt down to pry apart his long lips, I saw a pair of rodent teeth. I really do draw the line at dead varmint chew toys, folks. I truly do. Not knowing what else to do, I'm afraid I did what I generally do with Doodle - distract him by taking him outside in the backyard for a walk in the hopes he'd drop the corpse somewhere. And it worked. I am either a genius or a coward. Possibly both.

*shudder*

Snow poke

trystinn: (Default)
Today, we mortal creatures we, are grateful for the sun which late this afternoon burst through the gray and melted much of our snow. I can actually see little patches of front yard out there. The stones of the spiral walk are peeking out. Yesterday I could barely tell them from the surrounding snow.

The backyard has not melted as quickly, protected as it is by dozens of towering grand firs. What melt has occurred out back has allowed me to find a 1/2 dozen duck eggs this afternoon. Given I only have 6 female ducks and have been collecting at least 3 duck eggs daily during this horrid weather, this is extraordinary sustained laying. Yes, all the duck breeds we have are mallard-derived and therefore, cold weather breeds, but still I'm impressed with the ladies. And dear Gods, the Swedes! I've only two of them but they are laying massive sized eggs on a very regular basis, keeping up with the far better regarded laying breeds of Khaki Campbells and Runners that we also have.

The rabbits are very grateful for the extra alfalfa pellet I've been giving them and the apples my neighbors have been bringing by. This morning, Michael caught me in the backyard crouching in front of the bantam coop while I filled their water bowl. I made the joke on FB that if this sort of thing keeps happening, I'm gonna start wearing lipgloss when I go out to feed the critters. Our place is, of course, the kind of home where you can run into neighbors out back and its not particularly concerning to do so.

The neighborhood boys, the very same ones I caught coming out of the vacant house on the corner, are out playing some odd form of roller blading hockey with ramps. I can't quite seem to figure out the rules of the game, given how little I can see of it as the bushes block our entire front yard and I've only the space allotted by the driveway to watch them. These ingenious boys are using the hallowed out back of the ramps, at the height, to collect the street puck. But first it must be jumped over by the goal setter. If the other jumps over it between the time it takes to jump and score, then the goal is invalid. Or some such. The rules, as always with young men, are often in flux.

And so my day ends to the sound of young men cheering, hockey sticks hitting the pavement and the happy shouts of young men at play.

Been so insanely busy today and I'm so far past the wall I'm zoning out.

I began the day very early with a phone call from a friend who is transferring today. I finally managed to get a few bills sorted out and get the automatic payments set up correctly. Friends called on the road, they were in Seattle for the day up from Portland, and wanted to warn me they were en route to my home. *boggle* Spent the afternoon shopping, eating and catching up. We've all known each other since junior high, which was a long time ago! We managed to kidnap Kevin for a few hours, the ladies were delighted with him. He made an excellent shopping bag handler. And joke teller. And all around good buddy. It was a very natural fit.

The ladies came back to the house and met my farm minion, Noah, who was happily bonfiring that huge yard trash pile in the backyard. He jokingly told us its poetic justice that he's burning the branches, because he's the guy who piled them higher than his head! Along the way, he also found several duck egg nests. Now if I could just figure out where the Ameraucana is laying those gorgeous green eggs we'd be all set.

I made the mistake of buying a dog food and cat food that the furkids adore so now I'm dealing with constant feed bin raids. So far they've eaten through a week's worth of dog and cat food in the last two nights. So this weekend, along with fixing the incubator, we'll be setting up a new furkid kibble storage system. Gods help us.

Meanwhile, looks like Kevin is getting that Harley tomorrow. And we've a hay run to do on Sunday.
trystinn: (Cauldron)
No drama, folks, just cleaning off the folks who have gone inactive on LJ. If you haven't posted in 2011, likely I've removed you. Ironically, if you're reading this, it likely didn't affect you. :)

If you want back on the Flist, let me know backchannel.

Day 21: no pips visible on the eggs, I'm neurotic as all Hell.

Another incredibly slow day at the bookstore, didn't even make $20 in sales. Though I did make a lot of Special Orders over the phone, perhaps that will help.

We had a lovely dinner tonight with Kevin to say goodbye. He's off for the East coast with his squadron for Nugget training. Nuggets, should you wonder, are brand new pilots. For the week he's gone, we'll have his beautiful old Labrador, Booboo. We brought him home with us tonight, he's contentedly napping on the dog bed we keep here for him, his beloved blanket folded underneath him. Our dogs are thrilled to have their buddy over, Gracie was so excited she kept jumping into my arms to celebrate.

Doodle is fast asleep, having conned me out of a carrot earlier. I've always made a point to give him a treat in exchange for whatever horrible thing he's chewing on that he shouldn't if he gives it up to me willingly. So now he's bringing in rocks, sticks, etc. to exchange happily for carrots. I've been had.

Wednesday will be a busy day, tomorrow I hope to catch up on sleep and housework.
trystinn: (Obey the Basset)
The snow, so picturesque and pastoral this morning, failed to stick around past noon. Everything is muddy or flooded at present. Annual bookstore inventory went well, we even managed to re-arrange the "attic" (a loft in the back) and correctly label all of the holiday decorations. The store has been completely dusted, vacuumed and re-dressed for Valentines Day. At one point, one of the ladies came up behind me and asked what the theme was in the window I was decorating. I responded, likely with a bit of tart, "Winter Love" which got everyone giggling. Its a ridiculous concept, but then, we've got a ridiculous collection of things in the window: a white feathered boa, a white owl (a'la our old Harry Potter display, all on a red felt background. I have half a mind to bring in a box of personal items to fill out that silly window tomorrow.

The new bantam chickens are doing quite well, though we are having trouble with one of them who has an attitude issue. I popped her up in the bantam barn this evening and for my troubles, she pecked me. *eye roll* I gave her a very satisfying peck back with my index finger before flicking her in the tush as a warning. She ran off squealing. With any luck, we'll only have to do this a few more times before she figures out I'm at the top of the pecking order. She's one of the chickens I intend to sell and frankly, she's doing everything NOT to win me over with this sort of nuttiness.

Napoleon is beyond thrilled. He spent half the day crowing and dancing for the new gals. They are a bit too freaked out by the move to fully appreciate the display. Once they calm down and settle in, I'm sure our crazed Sizzle cockerel will gain their respect. We've added a row of nesting boxes for them, but at present only tiny Pepper is laying. And boy is she laying! Nearly every single day this week, tiny little fairy eggs, not much bigger than a quarter really. Picy goodness to come.
trystinn: (Default)
What with the rain, has come the clouds and higher temperatures. I'm very grateful for the 46.5F day, especially because it means I can fill the waterers with the hose instead of buckets from the laundry room. Yes, shallow I know, but what with my knees bothering me, warmer temps have been a blessing.

The chickens have found that they can perch on the fence rails of the rabbit pens, safe from the rain under the pen roofing. I'm not sure the rabbits are thrilled by this but everyone seems to be getting along quite well. Our naughty little Thistle and Middy have returned to the pen and I've reinforced it again. Hopefully, this will keep them occupied for awhile and they won't get loose again for some time.

The drakes have been placed up for sale on Craigslist. What with the little Silkies incubating safely (day 4 for those not on my FB), we need to thin the flock a bit. Our three rare breeds (Hamburg, Dorking and Andalusian) are likely to join Lori's flock. She's a self-sustaining woman and not a single one of her birds are laying. We've been keeping her in eggs, but it would be behoove us both to simplify delivery by our giving her the birds. Bonus, we can still show them at the island County Fair. Kids will get to see them, Lori will get to have the eggs and we'll have room in the coop - win, win, win!

I've lucked out and escaped jury duty this week, I'll have to call again on Tuesday to see if I can carry this luck another week. I'm grateful to this unexpected week off from jury duty, as dogsitting visits every 6 hours around the clock have taken their toll. Tiger and Jim will be returning this evening, so dinner will be my last visit.
