Been a very frustrating week at work, so I decided to entertain myself with some retail therapy while waiting for prescriptions to be filled. Immediately my attention was caught by a very large Halloween display. You read that correctly, HALLOWEEN. Children aren't even back at school, its August and stores are already pushing the next big holiday.

I was so offended, I immediately bought several things - mainly to protect others from the shock of it all. And, I'll admit - if you don't buy your Halloween decorations by mid-September on the Island, there's nothing but junk left. Go figure.

I have this really amazing idea to transfer the side porch into a creepy encounter with the Angel of Death for the trick o' treaters. I'll need some black cloth to drape over the sides of the porch, a couple dozen luminaries to direct a path down the front of the house to the side gate and, of course, Thanatos in all His glory. Black wings, skull face and flowing robe. Can't decide between a sickle or a sword, but I'd love to get some dry ice to bathe the side yard in spooky fog. I've got quite resin skulls, cauldrons and the like, including a glorious rendition of Mozart's Requiem, for full effect. Then, possibly dressing myself up as the Angel of Mercy to pass out candy - very much the Twin Pilalrs. Sadly, we get very few Trick o' Treaters so this whole shabang will be mainly for our own amusement.

For myself, I think I'll just get myself that pair of fangs I've been wanting for a few years now.

Sounds like the kind of people I adored as a teen when we'd cruize neighborhoods looking for the "cool houses". Mesa was a good town for that kind of thing, lots of very involved parents, lots of children.

We didn't get many trick o' treaters last year, about three groups as I recall but Josh wasn't in town so things were pretty minimal. It was our first year in the neighborhood, and as we don't have kids of our own, I think folks were understandably concerned.

Now we're that nice Navy couple, and even more families have moved in - so maybe its time!
