Josh: I wanna go shoot my new sniper rifle.
Tris: So go *shooing motion*
Josh: Wanna come?
Tris: Are we going to use Correlians as target practice? I could download some of their badges, print them out and tape them to the targets.
Josh: You scare me. No.
Tris: How about $RW books?
Josh: Yeah, see, I don't think they will let us use those at the rifle range.
Tris: Book of Mormon? Watchtower? Jack Chick tracts? Jehovah's Witless VHS tapes? Bush-Cheney bumper stickers? Yellow support our troops car magnets?
Josh: Paper targets, hon, universal non-descript could-be-anyone profile targets.
Tris: Not worth my time, then. Let me know when you decide to get serious.
Josh: Do our Elders know about this side of you?
Tris: Who do you think gave me those ideas?
Josh: Good point.

I saw a bumpersticker today that I haven't seen before.

I'm thinking I'd like to get one of those countdown keychains :)

Sounds like fun to me

What caliber does he have and where do you know of a 500 + meter range? I'll go shooting with him any time, although I only have a .25-06 Remington, a 117 Grain Hornady Interlock at 2800 fps can make a Book of Mormon explode ...

She bought him a Russian sniper rifle. Whether it's a Dragunov or a Moisin-Nagant, it's most likely chambered for 7.62x54R. M-N kick like mules, for some reason. My No.2 Mk4 SMLE in .303 has a recoil like an angel's shrug in comparison.

Its a Moisin-Nagant - the one used in Enemy at the Gates.

+1

Like most Russian designs of that period, Moisin-Nagants are simple, rugged to the point of being nearly impossible to break, and real short on frills. But they function reliably, even under adverse conditions.

I was an infantry sergeant in the 82d Airborne during the tail end of the Cold War: we got regular familiarizations with most Russian-made small-arms. My shoulder is all to familiar with the kick of an M-N.

It shoots 7.26 x 54Rs and the course around here is a 150 yard one.

I wasn't sure if he was going to be shooting the Russian 7.62, 173 grain LCB's or .50's (Yes there are people who actually enjoy shooting Barretts, which I don't understand at all. The one time I fired one, back in 90, it moved me - as in about four inches backward - with each shot.) Still, find me a 500+ meter range closer than Bangor ...

Mind you, I'm the fellow who, being an old 0331/32 LOVES the M2 Browning with a passion.

Oh yeah. Ma Deuce is my friend. Never fired any of the .50 BMG rifles, more's the pity. Most of my really long range shooting was dome with slightly larger stuff: TOW missiles, tank cannon, that sort of thing.

We are, by the way, creeping up on the M2's centenary in US service. 2023, I think. The small-arms boffins at Picatinny keep trying to build something that does the same things at a lighter weight, but they can't match the reliability

Russian 7.62 good guess.

There's a rumor a place down in South Whidbey will do that distance - I'll check on it for you.

Thanks Trista, Josh might be interested as well, in trying out what that rifle's 700-800 meter ranges shoot like.

The SVD Dragunov is rated for an effective range of 800 meters. In practice, more like 600 - 700 but some Spetznaz snipers found ways to overcome the weaknesses inherenant in the gas-auto configuration and could make some very impressive shots.

One of these days, you and DB ought to come up to visit. The guys can go shoot, the gals will go shopping or to Earth Sanctuary.

Sound like a plan?

Sounds like a perfectly ordinary converation in our home.

MY wife wouldn't let me buy a 105mm howitzer on the sole ground that we can't buy ammo for it, and she's not having guns lying about that we can't shoot...

LOL We have a running gag among the Kingstones here that we should start our own rifle team. There's just *that* many of us who enjoy shooting.

My Elders have at times expressed interest to either A) have me on their side in a firefight and/or B) stand where my SP21 ejects its brass so they can catch it as it flies(sends the casings to within a 4 inch circle when it fires).

ION, I've been thinking about trying Bible v .45ACP to so I can demonstrate that Bibles don't stop bullets. I need to do it with a Pentacle as well. :)

Pretty tame stuff around here. Today we voted for which online comic was the most tasteless, offensive and disgusting ever.

I won (http://www.sexylosers.com) :)

Hysterically funny, too bad the guy hasn't updated in a year though but the guest comics are hysterically funny. Toy Division is a good one, too.

I love Chick Tracts! My favourite is a tie between "John Sullivan the Catholic Goes to Hell" and the one about how Dungeons & Dragons turns people onto witchcraft and makes them commit suicide. Great times.

Your husband lets you have no fun. :P My husband says he would love to shoot at a picture of Bush.
